fugly, functional snow boots

Anonymous
should i get some? or am i just buying into the hype of the unusual snow storms? i really want waterproof mid-calf or higher functional snow boots, but i don't know if it's just because there's a ginormous amount of snow on the ground presently and i would never actually wear them ever again.

discuss.

I really like my columbia boots that are waterproof. They are reasonably high (a few inches below my knee) I got on zappos for about 100. Warm with socks, but not warm like Uggs (which is too warm for me). I wear them a lot.

I bought Uggs that look like rainboots, but actually they are warm inside with some type of fur or fake fur looking thing inside and at the top. I hated them at first for the price and the look, but now I love them after using them in the snow. They go almost to my knees and I didn't feel the cold nor wet when I shoveled. Love them now!

I really like my Patagonia Luganos. They meet your requirements and I don't think they're fugly.

I wear them even when there's no snow on the ground.

Actually they are pretty fugly.

I got a pair of Uggs last week. They are the ones with a tread bottom/more substantial sole and fur accents on the outside, not the traditional teen ones. They have been great in the snow so far.

OP here. so this might be a silly question, but how do you know when those suedey kinds are waterproof? i was looking through several stores before the storm and i kept picking up the suedey boots and thinking "there's no way water doesn't soak right through."

i also noticed the DEARTH of options of fugly functional boots in physical stores.

if i do go ahead with this urge, i think i'll have to order on zappos.

Uggs sells a waterproofing spray. They've been fine so far but I wouldn't wear them in a puddle. I got mine at Bloomingdales.

I bought a pair of these boots (though for far less from Sierra Trading Post) after the December snowstorm - they're pretty fugly, but they're comfortable and have been great in this latest batch of snow:

true snow boots are good to have in the closet. Mine are Merrell and I bought them at REI a few years back. They are comfortable enough for walking the dogs (30-60 min walk) and my feet don't get cold (wear with wool socks, not cotton). I used to wear Bean duck boots, but they didn't keep my feet warm, and they were too loose to walk in comfortably for any distance; now I only wear these for taking out the trash, grabbing the paper and gardening.

NP here, and I have them, too. They are unbelievably comfortable, warm, and waterproof--and they provide great traction. I highly recommend them.

This snow is not our usual amount, but still, it's good to have a pair of boots on hand. Mine are Lands' End waterproof boots - not terribly attractive but not awful either - and they do the job (which is all I care about).

It would be terrible to have a snowfall of any significant amount and not have any footwear to use in it.
