| i think it'd be very cool to build one with my 6 & 4 yr olds and had googled it a bit but want to know realistically if it's doable. if you've done it please share your experience. tks! |
| Very cool. I've never thought to try it, but if you do, share photos! |
| We did it as kids all the time. We rolled big snow balls like for a snowman base, put them in a circle with one opening for the door. Then did another layer/row of snowballs on top, with a smaller diameter each time until we could top the igloo with one snowball. We packed in the holes with snow, or left them for "windows." I have no idea if this was safe or not from cave-ins. We never had one though, and they lasted a month after everything else melted. |
| Yes, we are building one. We're using toy storage bins from Ikea to make the snow blocks. Fill the bin with snow and pack it in very tightly by sitting on it. It works well! |
| We're doing the same thing with a storage bin from the Container store. |
| My 12 year old daughter is building an igloo village in our backyard with her friends. They have a shared larger igloo and are all building individual igloos and customizing them. They are very engaged in this activity and are having a blast. |
| My husband and daughter have an igloo-in-progress in our front yard. They're using the container the Duplo Legos came in to make the "bricks." |
We were going to make one, but decided to wait for the next snow

As others say, you need a container to pack snow "blocks." You can use an old cardboard box, a recycling bin... We did this and also used some 2X4s across the top to create a "roof" type thing (we didn't want to risk the blocks falling in by doing the tilted-in snow blocks). It was pretty fun!
Kids got a big kick out of it. We let them use the summer picnic blankets on the floor and gave them flashlights and let them make "sno cones" with food coloring and sugar for them. |
Penguinsix I've been wanting to ask exactly what is it you do. Every time I see your logo I can't help but think it's an album cover for rap group? |

Here's how I did it one year with my mother and grandfather.
Stack three squarish medium sized garbage cans in their sides in a pyramid. Cover with snow. Pull out cans and hollow out the inside. Pack more densely where needed. |
| Thanks for the tip on the duplo container - we have at least one of those around. Not sure if I'm willing to do an igloo (due to cave -in and small child that wouldn't be able to fight back) but my just dig a hole in the snow - snow fort- is not as fun as I thought it would be. duplo ice block snow fort - here we come! |
logo is the movie poster from Police Tactical Unit |
| just had an idea! Use one of those big plastic buckets with the rope handles to pack snow in. We use them for laundry. I cant wait for tomorrow! |
I love that movie. Well, not love, but enjoy it because it just sort of stands out as a real 'film' and not just a movie. The cinematography of certain scenes puts Hollywood to shame. Actually I like all Johnnie To movies and other Hong Kong gangster films, though it's hard to find many of them over here. I'm drawn like a moth to a flame to the densely-packed, Blade Runner-like areas such as Mong Kok and TST (where these movies are filmed), which is kind of funny since I grew up in a very rural farm town. Anyway, I'm just a dad here to provide guy advice and comic relief when possible. Police Tactical Unit http://www.lovehkfilm.com/reviews/ptu.htm
