| Feds close- we've been to- believe me- by no choice since we had no power til today and two young kids and no form of heat. We had to get towed to break free and made it to a hotel- it was dicey- )snow tires or no hope) returning today was not picnic either. F'ing cheap county has to pay off its deficit by forcing vacation. bastards- I don't work there but my company follows their leave. Hope their top person gets no power and royally screwed this next storm (and that his wife wouldn't get her dark roots bleached blonde for the next soiree does not constitute his "suffering"). |

If I'm understanding, OP doesn't work for ffx county but her employers follows their closing schedule. They weren't closed (because they're cheap bastards), so OP's employer wasn't closed either, despite her having no way of getting to work and in fact barely being able to get out of the house because of power outage. Plus the roads were bad.
How close am I? The thing is, it's expensive for employers to close. It's the right thing to do, but it does cost someone. I hate having to take vacation for what is essentially a forced day off, but I'd rather do that than lose my job because i can't make it in. |

| OP here- ah- give me a break- I don't work for the county- I was clear that my firm *followed* ffx cty. And have you had no sleep for two nights- digging snow desperately to get out of our freezing home with kids who don't do as well sleeping elsewhere or in a 45 degree home? Going to a hotel with kids and bare essentials (that in panic you miss- our 2 year old is on a nebulizer and we tried a battery operated one- we got towed out of our street by a neiighbor's 4x4 knowing we had to leave and no heat). And at that age you can't reason with them? Came back to the house to shut off water- since it was apparent Dominion had no idea when they could restore. Our neighbor's pipes broke.. I'd soooo much rather be cozy in front of the tv seeing what was happening than experiencing the chaos that was happening. Is THIS better???? |

I'm sorry for your troubles. But don't blame Fairfax County Government, blame your employer. They don't have to follow county government.
I'm sure it must be very hard. I think as soon as this snow is over, I will purchase a generator so this does not happen to me. Maybe I will never use it, but it just sounds terrible to be in a freezing house with young children. I hope your power comes on soon and your pipes don't freeze. |

My company NEVER closes. If we don't work from home during a storm, we must take AL. So it could be worse OP.

OP here I'll put things in bullet points next time.
No fun- plus I have a work trip that already I can reschedule due to storm 2 (there are waivers since I'm sked for Thurs) but the flight availability is scarse so I can got for lilke 1/2 a day vs 4 days- not sure if it's worth it. Regardless, I need to pack for my work trip, 3 nights out of our house for all of us to be ready if this materializes tomorrow. We will lose power. Whoever gets how hard it is (forget saving the food at this point) that you had to evacuate with young kids- and the treacherous conditions to face with young kids. |
