Childcare during labor/delivery

We'll be having our second baby in a couple months. In normal times, I would certainly reach out to a family member I have in the area to ask for childcare assistance. Now that is much more difficult as our youngest (2.5) is in daycare (so daycare germs) and our family also has a young child in a different daycare in addition to being out and about at times. This makes asking them to watch our daughter not as easy as it would have been (since we're not otherwise in the same "bubble"). Just wondering what others are doing in this situation. Dad is staying home older child? It makes me consider a scheduled induction to aim for delivery to happen while older daughter is in daycare, but not quite.

Not helpful to you at all but our nanny stayed over for the two and a half days we were in the hospital. Nanny didn’t even want to be paid for the overnights or extra hours! And I was completely comfortable knowing DS was with her as DS loves her dearly.

Not helpful to you, OP, I know and I apologize but this is for those debating the merits of a nanny vs daycare.

Can you ask daycare provider if she is interested in extra hours when you go into delivery?

We reached out to a postpartum doula service which had sibling support. I would check on Doula Care of Md or Metropolitan Doulas. One may have postpartum doulas to be on call and come to your home.

I think you should ask your relative but give her an out (“I totally understand if it’s too risky for you...”) To be honest if I were her I’d be fine with it at this point. Obviously everyone is different but I would at least try her. It’s a big deal situation, and people get that.

Maybe hire a newborn care specialist? I know it's expensive but just an idea. They are trained to be careful about Covid.

Same and equally unhelpful to OP. I delivered on Monday and our nanny moved in and stayed with my toddler for two solid days. I wasn’t worried about my little Guy one bit as I knew he was completely happy and comfortable with his nanny.

My friend had her mom fly out and isolate in a hotel for five days, getting tested on the fifth day with results the next day. It’s not a 14 day isolation anymore.
