Thoughts on canceling cycle?

Anonymous
We have started estrogen priming for an IVF cycle and I just found out that my Vitamin D level is below normal at 28 (normal is 30) and TSH is at 2.3. I hate to cancel, but I don't want to go through with it with such bad numbers. I'm trying to see if my levels can be better by baseline before making a decision. Thoughts? My RE hasn't been good at increasing my Vitamin D levels.

If your TSA isn’t high enough it won’t be a good cycle.

I thought TSH and Vitamin D levels were more relevant to embryo transfers and implantation. A middle ground would be to go ahead with stimming and egg retrieval and plan on freezing your embryos and doing a FET once your levels are better.

We were going to do a fresh transfer. The middle ground approach is good, although wouldn't low Vitamin D also affect egg quality?

I’d be concerned about vitamin d for egg quality for sure. Honestly even 30 is lower than is ideal for fertility. I’d aim for above 40. If you can wait (maybe based on age, insurance coverage, and just how impatient), I would add vitamin D and wait 3 months. I know it’s hard to wait though. If you don’t mind potentially doing do egg retrievals you can go for it and see how it goes.

If you haven’t started the expensive meds it’s probably worth stopping if those metrics affect egg quality or number. If they do relate more to transfer, I agree with pp that suggested banking for this cycle.

For egg quality it takes about 3 months for supplements/diet changes, etc. to have an effect so keep that in mind if u decide to stop for potential quality issues.
