Honest questions for those who want to reopen schools in person:
Are you willing to quarantine your entire family for 14 days each time one of your children is identified as a close contact of a COVID case or suspected case? Will you quarantine for 14 days if any member of your family exhibits COVID-like symptoms? Is that possible for you in light of your work obligations? Will you do that every time? |

one of your children is identified as a close contact of a COVID case or suspected case --- won't happen often
if any member of your family exhibits COVID-like symptoms --- sick person stays home AND gets tested |
| Yes |

Yup. I have a son at in-person school right now.
If he is exposed we'll keep him home and fortunately DH and I can work from home so it will be a pain in the butt but not a huge deal. Definitely worth the risk for him to be back in school. |
OP, if you choose DL, if your DC is identified as a close contact of a covid case or possible case, will you quarantine your entire family for 14 day. The answer is yes, regardless of work or school. Right? |
| Sure although this is unnecessary. |
Where do you live? I'm in NOVA and it's easy to get a test. Close contacts don't need to quarantine unless they test positive. |
Yes. Yes. Yes. |
| I can't wait to do this if it means they're actually conducting in-person learning. I'll happily quarantine if it's necessary. |
In Md, it isn't always easy to get a test when you want one. But you would still have to all stay home until you get the test results back. |
| Yes. I’m a parent and teacher. |
Of course. But that's one of the reasons I originally chose DL. My children are not likely be identified of a close contact of of someone who tested positive, because they aren't ever inside with anyone other than family. Less risk. Two of my kids are starting hybrid next week, and we were just discussing the risk of my husband not being able to attend to work commitments due to the kids' exposure. There is a difference in risk between DL and hybrid. In addition, for public school students (I have one of those too), it remains to be seen how students excluded from school would make up the work missed. I haven't seen any plan for that in my district. |

You have no idea how many times you are in contact with someone in public who is infected. Schools won't open without masks and some form of distancing.
That being said, my child is in person at school and yes, we had a scare with my dh who is an essential employee and we pulled my son out of school and did DL until our tests came back negative. So, the responsible answer should be yes but it doesn't have to be 14 days and one shouldn't assume that there will never be a positive case or outbreak in school, much like there isn't ever a flu outbreak. It happens. |
Some may have more of an idea than you know the last iphone update included a COVID positive tracker. The thing is this forum is non binding and you never know what people will actually do... |
| Yes. |
