blizzard 2010:predictions about when kids will be back in school??

Anonymous
I suspect they may miss all of this coming week. Earliest they could return to school IMO is Thurs/Friday. We have been doing a lot of shoveling and it's getting to the point where there is no place to put all the snow. I think it will be a while before we dig out of this. What do you think?

agreed...here is some info from VA that makes it clear we shouldn't expect them to go to school before Wednesday and if we get more snow Tuesday/ Wednesday it will be Thursday or Friday before they're back in school.

It might be Thursday, but most likely Friday.

Where in the world do you live????

MCPS announced no school Monday and Tuesday. And another storm is due Tuesday evening/Wednesday.

I went to Fairfax Co. Schools as a kid, and one winter we had almost as much snow as this weekend. We missed the entire week, because all those buses had to be dug out of all that snow. The roads were clear by wednesday, but those stuck buses were another issue.

After the 2003 President's Day Blizzard, FCPS was closed the whole week.

DC schools are open tomorrow with a two-hour delay. Riduculous!

Yes, I remember this. I believe it will be the same this year, especially since more snow is expected on Tuesday.

I know that this will not be a popular comment, and I am not trying to be a troll, but this area's attitude towards snow is utterly insane. Yes, there was a blizzard, but the snow had stopped by Saturday evening at the latest. The snow plows had all night Saturday and all day and night Sunday to operate. Why is there still a problem? I have never lived someplace where snowfall on Saturday meant schools closed on Monday -- two days later!

I too have never lived anywhere that had snow (blizzard included) & school canceled two days later, however this area have admin officials in WDC/VA/MD that do not know how to plan accordingly- seems they haven't heard of contingency planning. All municipalities blew their respective snow budgets w/the Dec. snow.

2 PPs: just get over yourselves. It is what it is. Move if you don't like the way the DC area deals or doesn't deal with the snow.

Let's increase their local taxes so this is no longer a problem and get those kids to school immediately.
