I think kids will be back in school Mon. If there really is snow of 20 inches, with the last of it falling Wed. night, then schools would def. be closed Thurs. and Fri. in FFX county. |
21:49 here. Oh, yeah. But it seems like DC is determined to go to school. So, everyone will be home except DC |
MCPS (and likely most other counties) has off next Monday, Feb. 15th for Presidents Day. I think the kids in MCPS won't go back until next Tuesday, Feb. 16th. Many side streets (mine included) have not seen a plow yet. There is no way school buses will make it around on the side streets. On another note...how do you think the portable classrooms will hold up with all 3+ feet of snow on top of them? |
The DC area and much of the south simply don't have the resources or infrastructure to deal with storms like this. These storms happen rarely. So, these areas have not had a need to invest in the manpower and equipment to clear roads in the way that northern areas do. I don't think it's a matter of incompetence so much as it is a matter of resources. Yes, it's a hassle when it happens. The last time I experienced something like this in this area was in 2003. Fortunately, though, it's not a regular occurence. This is our reality in the mid-atlantic/south.
As to when MCPS kids will return to school--Friday? Tuesday? |
FCPS has already lost the President's Day Holiday because of other snow days. It is the first make-up day on their calendar. |
I wish MCPS would do the same. |
Montgomery Co. canceled school for Wed, Thur, and Fri. |
PLEASE let there be school on Tue. I will go crazy if I have to be in the house with my little bouncy boy ( Told him he was about to bounce of the wall of our tiny house. he name himself) I do not really understand this whole thing with school being out for so long ether. But bottom line people in metro Dc do not know how to drive in snow.. I am a 50 something grandma raising my GS. Our family went out to eat before storm 2 hit last Monday. Needles to say there where a lot of people out on the road some sliding. My DH grow up in CO. I grow up in Iowa. No front wheel drive or 4 wheel, yet people seem to get around just fine. |
