| I want preface this with saying I love my wife and she is amazing. I know she wants the very best for us but she is drinking me crazy. She went on a huge health kick earlier this year with switching all of our pots and pans to stainless steel, our storage containers to glass, and most of our household products to cleaner options. I didn’t really mind because there are health benefits and it’s better for the environment. Now we have always ate healthy but we still allowed our snacks. Lately she has been eliminating any foods with “ bad” ingredients. It’s frustrating because she will stop buying what I ask, and many things she will side eye me on when I bring them home to eat. I know she is just trying to do what she thinks is best but it’s driving me crazy. More of a vent instead of a question. Please tell me some of you can relate? |
| Sounds like me in the 6 months leading up to trying to get pregnant. Does she want a baby? |
| She's doing the best things for your health. You'll be grateful for her in 30 years. You should be happy not getting annoyed |
OP here. We have two young kids and she is pregnant with a third. |
|
What kinds of things has bought? Expensive crap or things you need?
What “ clean” household stuff did she buy? Many of the natural brands are not really natural or any better than the conventional stuff. What food items is she not letting you eat? |
| Does your wife make housecalls? I need her to do our house |
| This is your 3rd round. You know how this goes OP |
She bought All Clad stainless steel pots and pans. They were expensive ( $700) but they are supposed to be the best and last a lifetime. She bought a bunch of Pyrex glass containers and switched to some silicone bags food instead of plastic bags. We used stuff called “ Attitude” that is supposed to be very clean and has less harsh chemicals. We still use the regular stuff but only 1-2 times a week. She has stopped picking up anything with bad oils or high fructose corn syrup. No more frozen pizzas or anything that is processed. We only eat that stuff now 1-2 times a week when we get takeout. |
How often were you eating that stuff before? Are you a healthy weight?
|
This! OP, I'm sorry but you're still eating pizza two times per week and you're complaining abut her rigid health kick? Plus you have kids, so having junk in the house means they'll go eat it every day now that they're home 24/7. Ask me how I know
So she upgraded pots and pans, switched out the food storage containers, and changed cleaning supplies. I don't see how this is more restrictive for you. The processed food is really bad for you. Could you compromise and make homemade pizza or other treats so at least it's healthier? Maybe you bake cookies once a week and that's your treat rather than keeping tons of junk around? |

Accidentally wrote in the quoted section. |

Some containers have BPA which are really bad for you so changing to glass is much better. I wouldn't worry about that.
As for food its healthier for you but yeah sometimes you just want a little bit of junk. Why don't you have some snacks available to munch on. Gluten is silly. Unless you are coeliac you don't need to restrict gluten, there is no health benefit. Perhaps she finds it hard to eat healthy with that stuff around. Could you compromise and put it away in a cupboard she doesn't use. |
| I would not let anyone dictate what I eat. The end. |
This is your opinion. And many health experts disagree. Good for OP's wife for taking initiative to improve her and her family's health. |
