My DD is 5 years old and 47lbs and 45” tall. She was actually very large as a baby (9.5lbs and 21”) but now she seems really short and small compared to other 5 year olds. I am guessing she will end up on the shorter side (DH’s mom and sister are both around 5’2”). DH is 5’10” and I am 5’7”. |
Literally, this is one of the best-documented things you can wonder about your child. Look at growth curves and you'll know her precise percentile. |
When did she turn 5? |
My kid just turned 5. He's 42" and 40lbs. He's average. We are medium-tall people. I'm 5'7" DH is 5'10". |
My DD is 43 inched and 37.5 pounds. I think she’s around the 30% percentile for both. |
My 5 year old is on the smaller side. She weights about 36 lbs and 42 inches. |
45# and 3’10” so quite tall as well. Prob could gain some weight but no eating or energy issues. She tries to skip her milks at meals but I’m putting the kibash on that. |
Truth. |
There is a huge difference between 5 years 1 day and 5 years 364 days. Talk to your pediatrician to see her percentiles, and then realize that someone had to be above or below average and that’s fine. |
My 9 year old is 48.5 in tall and 53 lbs. She’s on her own little growth curve, at the bottom of the charts.
Your five year old is not that small for age. |
They’re not always accurate for the late bloomers. I was about 5 ft at 12. Kind of just average height or slightly smaller for a girl. Doctors estimated based on growth chart I would be 5’5 or so. Ended up a bit over 5’9 overall. Same thing happened to my mom, always on the short side as a kid (got put into gymnastics until puberty hit) and ended up 5’11. |
...you are deeply confused. Growth charts are always accurate for what they measure. They’re not a prediction tool. They tell you the percentile of your child at your child’s age. |
47 in and 36 lbs. She is tall and thin. |
My seven year old boy is 47’ and 43 lbs. I was a small kid and so was his dad. |
Sounds average to me. My 6.5 year old is 48" and 46 lbs, and he's definitely grown about 2-3 inches in the last year (hasn't gained much in weight) which would put him around 45 or 46 inches last year. And he is average height based on his stats and just anecdotally seeing him next to all his friends. You may be seeing a lot of giant 5 year olds. I know that sounds silly but my DS was somehow in a cohort at preschool that made him look like a shrimp. Then he went to kindergarten and with 100+ kids instead of 8, he suddenly was in the middle of the pack instead of the shortest. |
