Classic old Irish/Gaelic girls’ names

Anonymous
We are Irish but our baby will have dual citizenship. Chances are we’ll stay in the States until our child is in high school.

We love classic Gaelic names but worry about her American friends inability to pronounce them. So which Irish names can you all pronounce easily from the Gaelic spelling?

Thank you!

Fiona and Maeve are the only two out of this list that won’t get mangled

Americans will struggle for sure with Irish spellings, but some of the easier ones might be Fiona. Brigid. Moira. Doreen. Cara. Orla. Riona. Nuala. Deidre. Maureen.

No dumb American can pronounce these beautiful names by their spelling. Your daughter will spend her days in the US explaining her name, only to have it mangled and kids will laugh at her. Just name her Kathleen.
