Expectant and Postpartum Moms
|
I live in Rockville and I'm delivering at GUH. It takes 30 minutes to get there from my house if there's little to no traffic...maybe 25 if it was the middle of the night. I haven't had to do it during rush hour, but I'm TERRIFIED that I will go into labor and have a quick labor and be stuck in traffic on 270. My first labor was 24 hours long, but I lived closer to Gtown at the time.
Where do you live and where are you delivering? Are you worried about traffic? |
1 mile. sorry
I lived in Arlington and had to deliver at John's Hopkins because that was where I was working (and who my insurance was through) before I delivered my son. My water broke in Arlington and it was an "oh so painful" drive but we made it with plenty of time. I do have to suggest reading about self delivery options (although very rare that it would happen) just so you have the knowledge of what to do in an event of an emergency. good luck and I'm sure you will be fine.
When my son was born at Sibley we were a mile a way, thank god because he was born 40 minutes after we arrived there. Now for number two we are 25 minutes from the hospital and needless to say I have requested to be induced early for fear of having the baby on the floor of my kitchen with only a toddler to help me out.

I live in Alexandria and I'm planning to deliver at home, but the closest hospital is one mile from my house.
My last labor was also about 24 hours (hospital birth). Personally, I wouldn't be too worried about being 25-30 minutes away. But, I would probably plan to start moving in that general direction earlier rather than later. |
5-10 minutes. I know we are very lucky.
I'm about 30 minutes from Sibley, but work about 10 minutes from there. With my first pregnancy I was worried about getting there on time. I ended up getting induced and there were no issues. With my current pregnancy, I'm more worried because we now have a toddler to pick up if I go into labor while at work. I'm sure it will all work out like last time.
1mile.
2 miles! I could theoretically waddle there if I had to. Let's just hope I don't go into labor at work, then 25 miles.
We're about 30 minutes south of SG, with no traffic. I'm hoping for a non-rush hour baby, too!
I was so worried about this too. I just kept reminding myself how infrequently you hear about a baby being born on the side of the road. I know that probably doesn't help, but the odds are definitely in your favor that you will have ample warning.
2 miles. Don't worry though, it will be fine. Knowing the situation, you'll be prepared and will give yourself plenty of time to get there.
40 minutes away with no traffic, but we made it in 30 minutes at 1 am while in labor. It could have very easily been longer had there been an accident on the highway and we made sure to "test drive" several routes just in case. Of course, none of this ended up being an issue since I didn't have the baby until a 26 hours after arriving at the hospital.
I live in downtown Silver Spring and went to Alexandria... so 30 minutes in good times, a good hour in bad times. I was worried too, but I ended up leaving home around 9:30pm, so it was fine. Labor is usually long and you should have lots of warning. The crappy part is that being stuck sitting in a car having contractions is no fun, in my experience. The whole time we were driving, I was saying to DH, thank GOD it's not rush hour, I would be screaming like a banshee at the other cars to MOVE.
Very close--maybe 1.5 miles
