This came up as my daughter went to Ocean City for a few days with friends this week She is careful and wore mask but lots of folks did not and went out to eat 3 nights and stayed in hotel. She came home Friday exhausted but scratchy throat but I did see she was out and about a lot and on beach all day. No temp at all and breathing fine.
She does a part time pre school thing. She just sets stuff and only 12 kids. Only the 2-3 hours a day. Work is Monday. No one she was with has any symptoms. As a parent what expectations are there? Most of help is younger single girls 18-30. So not like they are locked up and a minimum wage job and testing is not required and my daughter gets no sick days as part time. Unless she gets temp or sick what to do and to late to get Covid test for Monday. Her friend who works there also went on vacation earlier this summer with friends. |
Your daughter should be calling a doctor for advice and then asking her supervisor, not having her mom troll on DCUM. |
Except she can’t call out and we ended up doing test this evening but takes a few days. Honestly surprised it is in honor system and place does not pay sick days |
Sorry, this is pretty terrible. are you saying your daughter is a teacher and went and partied with friends at the beach? |
... and is now going to teach kids? But it's okay because she wore a mask? Except she might have COVID?
I agree that the school should test, and/or give paid sick time off to help incentivize- but your daughter should also not have gone to the beach with a bunch of people and been "out and a about." Honestly, your daughter may otherwise be a terrific person, but both the teacher and the school kinda suck at the moment. I'd say they deserve each other but there are kids in the middle and I'm guessing they are low-income because it doesn't sound like a super high quality day care situation. |
Your daughter calls out until the results of her covid test. You don’t go into work with symptoms while awaiting a pending test right now. If this were my kids’ school I’d be livid if I found out a teacher came to school while awaiting results. Frankly, she could probably get sued. Tell her to call her supervisor. Also, yes, the school should offer paid sick days, but not necessarily for totally careless behavior. |
They should but the fact is that they don't. Many front line jobs in essential industries do not offer this.. This is what you should be "livid" about, not towards the workers themselves. |
I can be livid about both, no? Her daughter also made a poor choice |
What is listed on her daily screening? Sore throat is on the list. If still overtired later today then that would be a symptom too. |
No, because someone was selfish and went to a hotel with friends and ate out, I totally disagree. Totally irresponsible and selfish. She should be fired. |
OP my daughter is not a teacher. She just a part time helper.
My daughter did take test and guess what I had to pay. No reimbursement and $50 dollars copay to get results quicker. She also gets no sick days or paid time off. Plus it is minimum wage The doctor at urgent care her temperature is fine and breathing is fine. She checked and her friends from trip are fine. Still the best precaution is to wait. Still it is an inexpensive day care and folks getting laid min wage with no benefits or paid days off it is a bad situation |
My daughter and her friends wore masks, ate outdoors and too young to go to bars. Her concern amount of adults not wearing masks on boardwalk etc coming too close and crowding and many were families with kids. The issue is not the kids who watch your kids but often it is the parents. My younger daughter had middle school orientation and teachers were telling of all the trips and stuff they did all summer, my daughters principal was at her beach house doing zoom talking about boating with friends. It is not the 18 year old sunbathing it is all of us. I am sure Tuesday after Labor Day weekend will be a germ fest but hopefully Just regular germs Guess what my older daughter is away at college and just got a part time job at Dunkin’ Donuts. Labor Day her friends are going to beach, but Tuesday she is serving coffee for three hours at min wage. Should she isolate? We let folks watch our kids and make our food. I just wish paid sick days and free Covid tests were available to these low paid people. |
