My doctor will not record it on my chart although I sent a photo of me standing on the scale.
Some background. I am obese. I needed to lose weight to have surgery (not weight loss). I started out well, but gained it all back plus 5 lbs in the lockdown. I got serious in August and lost 10 lbs. My doctor does telehealth visits only currently so I can’t weigh in at her office. I get that really I only weigh 5 lbs less than I did when she told me to lose weight initially. I’m really at a loss for why she wouldn’t want to put that loss in my chart, even as a self-report. Any ideas? |

Like me, it sounds like you make weight loss very emotionally complicated. That's great that you want to change.
I was really helped by Dr. Judith Beck's weight loss books. Helps you get into the mindset of keeping it off forever. Good luck. |
| What difference does it make if it’s in your chart? Keep going, and when you next see your doctor in person they’ll record your new weight. |
I can’t be scheduled for the surgery until I lose the weight. If she will not accept my evidence, I have no idea when I’ll ever get the surgery. Surgery means a 85% probability of not needing medication. |
| How much do you have to lose to be approved for the surgery? If you are there, I would speak to the doctor about coming in for an official weight measurement. |
How far are you from the target weight? Is it just 5 lbs, or is it more? If it's more, it doesn't matter if this 5lbs is in your chart. Just get weighed officially when you get to the target. |
Not even sure how to respond. This has nothing to do with emotions. I need to be a certain weight to have surgery. |
| Sounds like you need a check-up. |
the journey between here (obesity) and there (low enough weight for surgery) is about emotions in large part because it is often emotions that are driving us to eat. I think your doctor is pretty emotionally insensitive for refusing to record your self-reported weight loss, but, truth be told, your doctor doesn’t really care that you lost 5 pounds. The doctor only cares when you show up to be weighed in the office at a weight at or below the target for surgery. |

There is no way to know how your scale compares to your doctors scale. Your doctor needs to weigh you on the same scale to record it.
I am sure you need to lose more than 5 lbs for the surgery. So keep tracking it at home and at some point when you are close to the weight you need to be for the surgery, then talk to your doctor. |
| Just keep losing and recording. She may need to see that same weight or lower several times to be able to record that it is truly lost. |
At least 15. |
| Are you willing to pay a sick appointment co pay to record a 5 pound weight loss? Talk to the weight loss doctor. Perhaps they have a method for you to document a weigh in. |

I have a bluetooth scale that I weigh myself on once a week. The app keeps track of my weight loss. Maybe try something like that so you can send your doctor the summary page that shows that you are losing weight and that it is a consistent loss or no gain.
I don't know why the Doctor wouldn't record it but it might be that your Doctor is looking for a degree of consistency in losing weight. How much weight do you need to lose for the surgery? has your Doctor mentioned that they are looking for not only weight loss but maintenance? At the very least, call and ask to speak to your Doctor and discuss the situation so you have a more clear understanding of what they are looking for. |
Congratulations! Keep it up. I am looking forward to you coming back at the end of Sept that you lost 5 more pounds. You can do this |
