I'm not sure if this is the right forum, so feel free to move/report if needed.
Gov. Hogan will have a conference today with Dr. Salmon and I will be taking notes. Any guesses as to what it will be about? Maybe moving the school year back? Longer days? |
I think everyone is hoping metrics for reopening schools. The acting Deputy Secretary of Health will also be there. |

Maryland is doing well and economy is recovering.
Process for getting kids back in classrooms. |
|
All kids deserve a world class education no matter where they live.
345 million more for the kids in additional education funding k-12 tech funding through CARES act. |
| "Broad and overwhelming agreement" that finding a way to safely begin returning children to classrooms must be a top priority |
| "Nearly everyone agrees there is no substitute for in person instruction" |
| Some of the County School Boards have not even attempted to bring any kids back for in person instruction - this is not acceptable |
| Every single county school system in the state of Maryland is fully authorized to begin reopening |
|
Returning kids to classroom is a top priority.
Everyone agrees there is no substitute for in person. Some school boards don't even have plans in place for in person education. Announcing b/c of metrics ALL COUNTIES ARE FULLY AUTHORIZED TO OPEN. |
|
16 County School systems have plans to return at least some students back into classrooms this fall
8 school systems did not submit any plans |
| 8 School boards do not have plans in place for kids to go back to school (MOCO AND PG) |
|
He’s clearly pissed at the counties that didn’t submit plans. And he should be.
It’s borderline criminal that MoCo hasn’t even tried to get kids back in any form, even the SN kids. |
| Authority and decision making rests with the county BOE but it needs to be based on State bench mark and metrics. |
| State Dept of Education and MD Dept of Health believe all county schools systems should begin reopening based on new set of stateside metrics |
|
"easier" for local school board to say they didn't want to reopen
but NOT acceptable NOT in line with health metrics or state policy NOT the right thing for our children |
