What is the going babysitting rate for a 9th grader?

DD is starting to babysit neighbor kids. What is the going rate for one kid? How about 2 siblings?

Depends on where you live.

my dd got 10/hour this summer to watch two siblings - 8 and 5. that was very reasonable, I thought.

I don't think you should start with going rate. You start a little lower until you kid has a little experience.

My rising 8th grader charges 10.00/hr for one kid and 15-20/hr if multiple kids....has no issue getting jobs

I would not pay lower than minimum wage. So $15/hour.

We are in Western Fairfax County and High Schoolers, particularly non-driving ones get at most $10/hour. Upper HS/College w/car is $15.

My 14 year old makes $7/hour watching one kid and usually $10-12 for two or three.

Ours does $10 for one kid and $5 more for each additional kid. Her rate doubles after midnight.

This is absurd. First of all, unless they are babies, 2 kids are not that much more work than 1. And $30 after midnight is insane. Why not just say she needs to be home by midnight.

OP, most of the teenagers by us answer “whatever you want to pay is fine” or something equally silly when you ask them what they charge.

It’s what the market supports. Good for her.

I had a 6th grader tell me $12 a few years ago. I personally wouldn’t pay less than $15 if you aren’t home and don’t have to drive her.

Why do you car as long as the teen has reliable transportation? How discriminatory.
