Due date passed - too tired to move

Anonymous
My due date has officially passed and while I know I should be walking/moving around - I’m just so exhausted from work and life that I want to do none of that and rest as much as I can. Am I delaying the inevitable? Will this hinder the progress of my labor? I just want to be lazy right now knowing the marathon I’m about to face

Go on maternity leave now and start walking. Drink plenty of water. My second was over 2 weeks past DD but I had a toddler to chase around so I didn't have the luxury of being too tired to move.

I was in bed rest 2 weeks before the birth of both of my children, so no walking and I had two short enough labors - 10 hours and 12 hours from start to finish. Rest all you want, you’ll be fine.

Sorry OP. I say do what you want as well. I napped all the time and played online dominoes. I was ten days late, and scheduled for induction before he decided to show up.

Be lazy! Mine waited a full two weeks past my due date and I wish I'd taken it easier. Your body needs rest more than anything right now.

Just rest.

Rest up! I walked so much I was really exhausted and not ready for my 40+ hour labors. And then baby came and there's no nursery in hospitals... gah. Just a marathon of tiredness.

OP here - thanks all for your tips. Will be listening to my body and taking it easy!

I'll echo everyone else and say don't kill yourself walking a ton BUT I do highly recommend stretching regularly. You will get sore/cramped if you put yourself on bedrest. If you have a bathtub, I recommend baths for relaxation! (Floating in a pool is even better but unless you are lucky enough to have one in your yard I assume it's out of the question right now because of COVID).

I feel you girlfriend. My 2 HUGE sons were both 2 weeks late. I was pi$$ed at mothers who delivered 2 weeks early. That last month was awful and the heat doesn’t help. Relax, you deserve it.

Right?!?! They had 4 weeks on me. Ugh. I remind my kids of this every Mother's Day how they came at 42 weeks and were monster babies (9-10lbs)

Give yourself permission to rest!

I walked, jogged even while overdue and got nowhere. Baby came when he was ready 9 days late. You might as well rest!

Years ago I was overdue with a late August baby (we celebrated her birthday over the weekend). Just rest. The weather is miserable and gross. Soon enough you will have a newborn to keep you up all night. Just rest in the AC. You’ve earned it.

I was induced when I was 9 days overdue. I walked a lot and was very active but it didn't help start labor. I did stop working after my due date which was a relief though. Can you stop working now? If you feel like relaxing, just relax. Don't feel bad about responding to what your body is telling you it needs.
