Where do healthy, fit, non-disorded women hang out?

I'd seriously like to know. Am I the only person who doesn't weigh myself, goes for runs, also eats ice cream and cake, doesn't count carbs, is 40+, likes to feel strong, doesn't mind sweating, eats kale and lentils but also enjoys just eating brioche straight from the bag sometimes without starving myself the next 2 days as punishment?

I feel so alone in this on DCUM. Anyone?

Bueller?

No. You're not the only one.

I think there's plenty of us here, look at the food and cooking threads rather than the diet and exercise threads if you want to see folks who look at food for enjoyment rather than as part of a diet.

You are definitely not "healthy and non-disordered" .

I’m confused. Are you saying you go for runs, or that going for runs is disordered? I think you’re missing a clarifying comma.

I’m all those things you describe about yourself, except I do weigh myself. I’ve been eating A LOT of ice cream lately, but I’m also running and walking a lot spit honestly evens out.

MyFitnessPal community section might be more what you’re looking for. It’s a very supportive space and the long timers on there often have excellent, sane advice.

It’s ok checking in here once in a while, but man, do some of the IF threads skirt the fine line between IF and “how to effectively starve yourself” advice. And I like aspects of IF.

You should try the MRTT group. Most of us run a lot, marathons and even ultra marathons. Lots of us did the race across Tennessee virtual challenge this summer. Almost everyone eats a ton of sweets haha! Personally, I ran my tempo run today and plan to eat a nice big bowl of ice cream after my kids go to sleep.

I take classes through Fit4Mom and am part of their online community. They all seem pretty healthy, fit, and non-disordered (I am an exception in that I am not as fit, and more disordered). Really great women with kids of all ages and some without kids. There are classes for all ages - many who take their HIIT classes are in their 40s.

You have just described exercise bulimia. See also: drunkorexics.

You are normal! I find the disordered thinking so many women have so sad! I eat mostly healthy, but love to indulge too. And I don't do anything to "make up" for the indulgence because I'm not disordered. And I work out to feel good and keep fit not to burn any certain calories or whatever.

NP. What??? I exercise a lot daily and I also eat a drumstick cone every night. I can guarantee you I don’t have bullimia!

I think people throw around the term disordered eating a bit much. What might be an abnormal pattern for you may fit for another person either culturally or in response to knowing their body. Not everyone is going to do best on three meals and two snacks across 16 hours a day. But there tends to be this perspective that any deviation is from that is disordered. Oh, and simultaneously, the condemnation of those deemed heavy as lacking self-discipline or being lazy.

No, you just described your own disordered thinking since apparently you only think of exercise as something to burn calories. It's so, so much more. It gives me a challenge and confidence knowing I can do something I couldn't when I was half my age. Running (and exercise in general) makes me feel strong and badass.

It's also a great way to healthily work off anxiety, stress, frustration, anger, and things we all feel sometimes.

It's also social! I don't like to run with others, but I do other exercise things with others - it's a great way to make friends, and even have genuine fun!

And yeah it burns calories and helps keep my weight in check, but exercise is about WAY more than that. I'm so sorry you only see exercise and fitness as it pertains to weight. That's really sad.

I’m exactly like you, OP, but I went through decades of disordered eating in my teens and 20s to get there.

How do I find this group? I’m not running a lot right now but hope to be soon! (had a rough pregnancy and couldn’t run but baby is out!)

Not everyone exercises just to burn calories. I don’t care at all about my weight but I love running. Makes me feel good physically & emotionally. Then I eat whatever I want. But I eat whatever I want even if I’m not running.
