Do you think the next mayor will be more liberal or conservative? Because so many people people I know hate the job DeBlasio is doing on the right, and now the left.Wondering if it's possible to get a mayor like Bloomberg again or will it will someone far left? |
I've been discussing the same with dh. I think we are headed for a lurch right. De Blasio is unpopular among many groups, as you noted. Probably lots of divisive, far left-leaning candidates like Maya Wiley will enter the race, but don't know how successful they will be. Not everyone wants to defund the police or get rid of G&T and SHS.

What about the Guardian Angel guy? He seems to know what’s going on better than anyone. |
I think the ideal mayor would be a longtime Black beat cop who's been stopped and hassled police himself, who's also been affected by street crime. For extra credit: Someone with a shop that's been looted. I want a mayor who recognizes that letting white nationalists take over the police force is unacceptable, and that letting creeps systematically smash and loot shops is unacceptable. I also want a mayor who recognizes the need for strong social welfare programs, and also recognizes that people with money are human beings, too, and deserve to be treated with fairness and common courtesy. If tax rates on rich people are too low and need to be increased, fine. But rich people as a whole just aren't the source of all evil. They're people who started a business and had good luck with the business, or inherited a successful business. I'm sick of people like Bernie Sanders whipping up hatred of rich people. A lot of the rich people in New York seem to be nice, responsible rich people who use their money to do good, important things, like supporting schools, hospitals and museums. |
it depends on the conservative. I think conservatives have shot themselves in the foot lately by running loons in races that should be at least competitive in not a win |

yang has a decent chance of running |
Now that would be interesting. |
I think they will move right, because DeBlasio has been such a disaster. He's kind of ruined it for everyone |
Scott Stringer has announced He is running. I think he has a good chance of beating Deblasio in the primary. |
This is your guy pp. DeBlasio snubbed Ben Tucker when he appointed Dermot Shea top dog as NYPD Commissioner. Tucker is well respected and extremely accomplished. He's been overlooked twice for commissioner. Shea sends Tucker, second in command, to handle the bad cop, black issues. Fking twerp! This sums it up for me (white moderate-dem woman) “Speaking of who is here today, where is the commissioner?” Queens Councilman Donovan Richards said at the start of the hearing. “I do see the man who maybe should be the commissioner, Deputy Commissioner Tucker.” https://nypost.com/2020/06/09/councilman-slams-dermot-shea-for-skipping-nypd-chokehold-hearing/ Tucker's bio; https://www1.nyc.gov/site/nypd/about/leadership/first-deputy-commissioner.page https://www1.nyc.gov/site/nypd/about/leadership/first-deputy-commissioner.page |
DeBlasio is term limited and can’t run again. |
NYC is falling into the traps of the far-left like Seattle has been doing for the last 8-10 years.
Like Sawant on the Seattle City council, you think, no way can she get re-elected, yet she does and Seattle drops deeper into crime, homeless and becomes a city for the liberal elite and poor victims. SO, NYC will elect a similar incompetent clown after deblasio but unlike Seattle, NYC's wealthy have local options. |
Demographics aren't the same. NYC has large working class/blue collar population. |
Well said. |
