NCSL and MoCo home games

Anonymous
Does anyone know what the plan is for MoCo teams Potomac soccer in particular to play games in NCSL? Where will home games be played if current covid orders stay in place? What does the current practice plan look like? How do Potomac soccer parents feel and is fair for them?

I think the bigger concern is how they'll get in legitimate practice in preparation for the games. I'd travel every single weekend if it meant kids playing. There's no reason to think that MoCo is going to do anything to support children.

I don’t understand your point about practice. Potomac has been practicing for about a month now.

I didn't think they were having full practices yet? Are they doing more than spaced out passing? My understanding was not full contact practice yet

Yes, that's what I meant. Are they still doing "stay 10 feet apart from each other" practices? If so, they'll get torn up in Virginia next month.

Its not about "getting torn up in Va" Its more about you can pass and do rondo drills all day but nothing makes up for on the field scrimmage. Also injuries are more likely just jumping straight into game competition rather than ramping up in training regardless of the age.

I can’t say for every team but I see a few age groups doing scrimmages during practice.

Ok, fine...agreed. The MoCo teams need to be scrimmaging. It's the only way to get ready for competitive games across a number of dimensions.

I personally have no problem with all the skill training the clubs are doing right now. Like training in the Netherlands. We probably play too many games in the US anyways.

I understand your theory on skill development. however there is an aspect of the game called fitness. Not to be confused with athleticism. Fitness is needed for game endurance and injury prevention. Im sure all the teams in the Netherlands practice fitness as well.

I also agree, but this is something that kids who are dedicated can work on themselves, by going running etc.

While running is important, there are confusing information about what to run.

Should it be sprints, jog, then sprints or all jugging to gain soccer endurance?

American kids play 1/4 of the total number of games per year that a Spanish kid plays. We play much less actually.

I was shocked and when I was told how many the kids there play. They believe games are incredibly important.

They can't scrimmage anymore. For the OP please contact your team manager, coach or the executive director regarding how the season will be handled. They are doing everything possible to have MOCO move soccer to medium risk.
