Is the County enforcing the regulation that everyone over 2 has to wear masks?

Considering how difficult it is to ask little ones to wear masks, what are the county’s expectations regarding compliance?

I know our center does their best, but I really feel for the teachers on this.

I've been wondering this ever since the face covering order came out.

I'd be awfully surprised if anyone is enforcing it. Child Care is regulated by the state, and the state childcare rules and regulations do not require toddlers to wear face coverings. I believe that's been part of the training sessions put on by MSDE.

I tried to get a clear answer from the county on their realistic expect for toddlers, but they wouldn't answer.

Sure they could. The centers are operating in the county. It just seems highly unlikely that they would.

Sure they could. The centers are operating in the county. It just seems highly unlikely that they would.

I know it was posted before, but MSDE on Aug. 6th made it clear for childcare. MSDE COVID Guidance states "It is recommended that children less than 5 years of age who can wear a cloth face covering safely and consistently also wear a cloth face covering while in the child care
center or family child care home." So that's it. It's recommended but not required.

Daycares are subject to state, not county, regulation. Ours follows all regs to a tee and says that kids under 5 are not required to wear them. (In MoCo)

Exactly, not required so the daycares I know of are also not requiring it.

The daycares are still subject to health orders in their local jurisdiction, just like any other business. So yes, a daycare violating the mask order could be shut down by the county. But the provider's license wouldn't be in jeopardy.

I don't think Gayles actually thought 2 year olds could wear masks. I think that was just virtue signaling.

The 2s class at our daycare has all the kids wearing theirs (including my child). I was honestly dreading the mask requirement, but the kids have adjusted really well. Mine now asks for theirs as we get out of the car.

Seriously- how do you get a 2 year old to keep a mask on? My kid doesn't fight it per se- he just rips it off at the first opportunity no matter how many times we put it back on.

My older DC is 4 and at a center and does fine with the mask. But my youngest just turned 2 and we opted to return her at our previous in-home daycare even though we had the option to move her to the center when they opened back up. I didn't feel like it was developmentally appropriate or realistic. If she were a year older I think it would be fine. In our situation it would have been a lot of changes at once, but the mask requirement was definitely a factor.

My young 3 year old is an excellent mask wearer. A young two would be much harder. It helps to have a good fit and some kind of strap around the back of the head.

You may need to try a bunch of different masks to find one that fits well and is comfortable. I also let my kiddo choose the patterns and colors I buy, and choose a mask when they get dressed each day. Kiddo is doing great being masked around non-family.
