Oh I'm sure parents will still be demanding clubs play games and tournaments, even if the NCAA says it isn't safe.
The bigger issue is the knock-on financial effect of no college football and possibly basketball, again. I wouldn't be surprised if next year's recruiting class for non-revenue sports (soccer, lacrosse, track, etc) are very light on scholarships. |
I was a huge college sports fan for years, but am over it at this point and could care less if they got rid of all of them. If the NFL, NBA and others want a minor league, let them do a better version and stop corrupting colleges with this nonsense. Yes, they should be paid, and they should do whatever they want based on their view of risk, but there is no need for them to get scholarships from universities, and certainly no reason to have the bloatocracy of coaches and athletic departments at major university programs. It's gotten out of hand. This crisis has underscored the greed and egocentrism of everybody involved in college sports - whether the colleges, fans or athletes. |
Football, men’s basketball plus enough women’s for title IX balance. Maybe we’ll get to a point where sports are part of the experience that any student can participate rather than siloed financial burdens |
What are you basing that off of? College and youth are different, just as college and pro and youth and pro. |
Shut down travel then. And pro sports. Shoot and any type of physical shopping. |
Understatement of the Year. |
Do you really think kids are not interested in playing sports and it is only being pushed by parents? College sports have a number of additional factors involved compared to youth sports. There have been baseball and lacrosse tournaments going on most of the summer. I am not sure why the anti-sports message gravitates to this forum. |
Not anti-sports, but an anti-"sports UBER ALLES" attitude that exists in many, and yes, that attitude is pushed by many parents. |
Geez. If you don’t give a crap about college sports, then why the hell are you here read & posting in this thread. What about the thread title that you don’t understand? |
Well the forum is generally a youth soccer forum so the college sports discussion is what is actually a bit out of place. And trying to conflate the reaction of youth sports based on what the NCAA does will certainly draw in other readers than just college sport fans. |
Great justification of why you are trolling here. Any how, is your DC planing to contradict your view about college sports and will play college soccer than? (Assuming he/she is good enough.) |
| College and professional sports lost me as an enthusiast when they broke the fourth wall. I am not interested in what the players think. I have moved on from sports. |

I hope at least one college football conference decides to play. (I fear that decision not to play is being forced on conferences from “above”.)
I do not look forward for press conferences tomorrow justifying decision. (If I were a star college football player, I would hope that my school/conference lets me go pro immediately.) It is possible to play travel soccer without traveling out of the DMV. Travel soccer can work around counties in the DMV that wish to ban games. |
Someone will. And for a few weeks, the Big Sky conference or whoever will be the hottest ticket in town. Then someone will get sick with covid. Then multiple someones. It’s nearly a mathematic certainty, with the probability enhanced by the fact that American football coaches are probably the LEAST inclined to follow competent medical advice (play through the pain, son!) Then someone will die. Maybe, again, several someones. Probably more likely to be a coach, as they’re older and some look like they’ve got some risk factors going on. Maybe, unfortunately, players. And when it’s over we’ll count the cost in lives so that ghouls like you can sit on the couch and stuff your face with potato chips while feeling like a real winner. |
