success after miscarriages?

Anonymous
I got pregnant naturally at age 38. Miscarriage at 10 weeks. D&C. chromosonal issue. Couldn't get it to work again, so went for IUI. 4th IUI at age 40 worked, but miscarriage again at 12 weeks, again w/ chromosonal problem, though different from the last one. Anyone else have multuple miscarriages at at advanced maternal age and have it work? If so, what did you do? Any special diet? Any homeopathic? Any traditional meds? Need to some positive stories...

I had miscarriage at 5 weeks, the next misscarriage at 11 weeks, due to Downs, and then a chemical pregnancy. Finally, our fourth try, I conceived our son when I was 42. FYI-it is rare to have 2 miscarriages in a row due to chromosomal issues. That is just bad luck. By you getting pregnant is a good sign and now you have to catch the golden egg. Really, third time charm

As a 40+er who has been trying to conceive for years (with only one m/c and no bfps in the years since), let me tell you that the 40+ women I see who conceive (and go to term) are most often the ones who have had miscarriages.

Just curious if you were able to conceive naturally? I had a miscarriage followed a few months later by a healthy pregnancy and since then I've had two early chemicals. I'm still holding out hope that I can do this naturally although I have started the process of working with a RE. Thanks for sharing your story!

All my pregnancies were conceived naturally. I do know miscarriages are very common with women in their 40s, but that doesn't mean there aren't some good eggs left. I had decided to see an RE after the chemical pregnancy but after an u/s, he suggested that we continue to TTC naturally. Don't you love that? I did get pregnant again, 2 weeks later after his prediction, and stayed with him so that I would get weekly u/s. It sucks when you're my age and stuck with 1 u/s in 12 weeks! I wanted to know immediately if I had miscarried.

Thanks, I am the PP with the two recent chemicals. I'm 40 and hoping that I can catch the good egg.

OP - keep positive - it will happen! I conceived naturally at the age of 39, but miscarried at 7 weeks (don't know why). At age 40 I went to an RE and did 3 IUI's (1 chemical, 2 BFNs). Finally at 41 I did IVF and they were only able to retrieve 3 eggs, 2 of which were transplanted back in on Day 3. I was sure my chances were zero with only 2 eggs, but guess what? BFP! My son is almost a year now, so it can happen. I was worried all of my eggs were "bad" too, but he is perfect in every single way. Don't give up!

OP, I conceived naturally at 38.5 after a miscarriage at 8 weeks. I eliminated all caffeine from my diet and started weekly acupuncture treatments. I believe the acupuncture really did help me get pregnant. If nothing else, it allowed me one hour of complete relaxation during the week. I also ate a lot of ice cream which is supposed to help you conceive. I think the fact that you can get pregnant is a very good sign. Stay positive and best of luck to you!

Yes. I remember being where you are and needing to hear that people succeed. It was torture. I had two miscarriages (one at 11 weeks and the other at about 8 weeks) at age 36/37 before having my first at age 37. I had another miscarriage at 38 before having my second at 39. I had a complete workup with an RE. They found nothing, but noticed that my cycles ran a little long. I was treated wtih Metformin (diabetes medication) while trying to conceive and through the first trimester on the theory I had mild PCOS. It's not a standard treatment here, but it is common in Europe and more doctors are using it. Worked like a charm--both times. I don't personally believe in homeopathic remedies for this, but there's no harm in trying I guess. Good luck.

A note about caffeine -- TCOYF recommends cutting it out if you're having trouble. Also, my Dr asked if I was drinking coffee when we were TTC and he implied it would be good to take it out.

I had several miscarriages -- all due to chromosomal abnormalities. I think acupuncture helped. I also modified my diet a bit based on some suggestions from the acupuncturist and tried to exercise and just get as healthy as possible. I was 40 when I got pregnant with my now 2-year old twins. Good luck to you. I think the fact that you are getting pregnant is a very good sign.

pp, can you recommend your acupunturist?

I am not the PP, but I loved my acupuncturist and she has offices in Falls Church and Bethesda. I ended up having success via IVF at 41 and 43. She assisted me all through the process and is very familiar with fertility treatments.

I've had one miscarriage and it was heartbreaking, so I just wanted to say that I hope you have good news soon.

After my miscarriage my new doc had me take B6, B12 and a baby aspirin. The baby aspirin I took after I got pregnant as well - I want to say until 30 weeks? HTH, and hugs to you.
