| I'm curious to know what safety schools are now for high schoolers around the DMV? When I graduated from high school 12 years ago the popular safety schools were: WVU, Frostburg, ECU, & Coastal Carolina. |

I think it depends on the kid's stats, ECs etc.
I'm guessing the schools you listed are safeties for everyone because the admissions requirements are low. I think for the people on this board, regionally, it might be places like James Madison, George Mason, St. Mary's, Towson, U of Del, Penn State - and then some privates. I doubt PITT is a safety school for most, it is going the way of Case and Michigan anyway, where soon we will see yield protection. |
I'd agree with your list with the exception of Penn State. I'd also add Miami Ohio, Elon, South Carolina, and College of Charleston. |
+1 Pitt is more competitive now |
The bolded are essentially community colleges. |
I would add CNU, ODU, and VCU |
| My DD graduated this spring from Coastal Carolina and was accepted into a competitive grad school with a scholarship based on her GPA. I think CCU gets bad press on this board but my DD thrived there with smaller class sizes and caring professors. |
It’s impossible to say. Someone with 1000 sat will have different safeties than someone with 1500 sat. |
This why we can’t have threads like this. The meanies show up. |

For my DD, safeties, were UDEL, Iowa State, Mich. State, and Miami of Ohio. In hindsight, she would have applied to Iowa State when the App opened, and started the year accepted. (She is going to her target school)
|
| My DC wanted a SLAC, so her safeties were St Mary's College of MD, Wooster and Juniata. |
This is why I never talk about my sons college. Those are all perfectly acceptable, affordable schools. |

Why do some posters think everything is a competition, and that their experience must be RANKED in contrast to yours.
They sounds like miserable people |
Iowa State seems like a perfectly good school, but would anyone from this area actually go there? Trying to get my DD to apply there just to see what they'd offer her (4.4 W/GPA, 33 ACT). but she's not interested. |
