Am I the only person still not doing public places or travel

I just don't see the need to sit in a restaurant full of other people to eat dinner. Paying for the food and heating it up again at home isn't a deal breaker for me. Still supporting local businesses/restaurants and still feeling safe, win win for me.

I do grocery shopping, always have, with a mask of course, but I still wipe everything down before putting it in the fridge. If it's juice that can be stored in our basement for a week or so, I let it quarantine there.

Travel? We got invited to a couple of destination weddings, and I'm not going to lie, I am itching to go to one of them. I've pretty much done all the research for flights and their cancellation policies in case we get cold fee. I'm cool with not traveling internationally until next year, but a few days in Barcelona or Riviera Maya would be nice.

Ya no thanks.
Pre-covid we rarely did takeout. My opinion on takeout has always been that if I am paying for restaurant food I want someone else to serve me and clean up the mess. If I am paying for restaurant food i am alos not going to reheat it when I get home.

I should have been more specific...by takeout, for the most part its been pizza, Chipotle, Chik-Fil A etc. I'm not going to a restaurant to order a steak and then take it home. For that I'd rather go to the supermarket, get my own cut and cook it myself lol.

If you're still wiping down your groceries, you are anti-science. There's no other way to describe it.

Why? This whole thread is amazing. We as a society are so ingrained into meddling and having opinions of other people's business, its unreal. If someone doesn't want to go out because they still have the Covid shock, or b/c I'm wiping down my groceries, it's how I want to do things and it's how that person wants to live. To say I'm anti-science when I've followed literally everything to a tee just because I wipe down a gallon of milk with a lysol wipe is ridiculous lol. I'm comfortable doing it, it doesn't bother me, it takes 2 seconds. It's habit at this point. It's not anxiety, it's not "issues" I have, its just an extra step that I do and have been doing for the last 16 months.

Keep telling yourself that...

There is literally no reason whatsoever to wipe down groceries. Doing so at this point is pure anxiety and maybe some OCD.

We have 1 kid vaccinated, the other is too young. We're fully back to outdoor camps and sports, outdoor dining, uncrowded indoor dining, vacations we can drive to, and spending time with friends and family. We still make our younger one wear a mask inside public places (when not eating). We are not doing flying, water parks where she could not be masked in a big crowd, or crowded indoor dining. We have done an amusement park. Unvaccinated kid is very used to masking from school and it doesn't bother her to wear a mask inside still. She only wears one outside (her choice) if we're in a very crowded place.

We are engaging in near normal activities at this point. All of our friends and family who are eligible to be vaccinated are vaccinated. We have been seeing them often, in mostly outdoor gatherings. We still mask when in public spaces indoors, mostly as moral support for our unvaccinated youngest. We have dined in restaurants, at least 6 feet from other tables. We let kids play indoors with other kids whose families are vaxxed. We are planning a 4th of July cookout.

I wouldn't take my unvaxxed kid to standing room-only indoor concert, but that's about it. We will travel internationally later this summer to a country with relatively low covid rates and good protocols. We will be almost exclusively outdoors at this destination. Covid rates in the DMV are VERY low right now, and we are taking advantage of it. I fear that rates among the unvaccinated by tick up again in the fall with the newer variants, and I want to get as much living in before the vax refusers ruin things for the rest of us!

Well, many people got vaccinated, and I think a lot of us got fed up with not being able to do anything. Now when they reduced the restrictions, everything I want to do is to travel around. I was supposed to visit Europe before Covid happened, and I will finally do it this summer.
The countries I want to visit are Germany and France. France is first on my list, but I am excited about Germany because I will travel by train. I use https://www.dbfahrplan.com/de/ to follow the schedule, and it will be awesome.

We were very conservative during the lockdown and I can say that we are certainly more relaxed now. Everyone is fully vaccinated. Kids are meeting their friends outdoors. We were getting takeouts throughout the pandemic. We are meeting family and friends who are fully vaccinated in our backyard. We are inviting vaccinated friends (2 couples max) for dinners and sitting far enough. My kids have also done sleepovers with their closest friends after strictly quarantining for two weeks - so that was very responsible and sweet.

Our groceries are still online from some stores (Costco, WF, Giant) and curbside pickup (Safeway and Wegmans), but we have gone to grocery stores in person also for some ethnic or speciality stores. The reason we are getting groceries delivered is because it is a huge convenience at times and we all have become a bit lazy. I think this will continue for the foreseeable future.

We always had great hygiene protocol in place before pandemic - no shoes indoors, washing hands, changing clothes when we get home etc so it was not a huge change. We have always rinsed and dried fruits and veggies before putting in the fridge, and we have always rinsed and wiped packages that go in the fridge or refrigerator too, so even that was not a huge change for us. The change that has happened due to the pandemic and that we will continue is that we are cleaning and sanitizing our fridge and freezer more often now.

We don't mind masking or double masking (indoor public spaces) and we use reusable masks that we wash after every use. I think we will continue to do that for the rest of the year and certainly when schools open.

We have not gone on a vacation for a number of reason - a)we were not in a mood to go anywhere with deaths in the family, b) we have other stuff going on and c) we are still being cautious.

Finally, I was a person who had a cleaning lady come twice a week to my house before pandemic. During the pandemic, I got in the habit of cleaning my house myself and now I quite enjoy it. I am also saving a bundle. I might get my cleaning lady back again maybe once every two weeks but I am also really debating if I want her back? My house is really spotless because I do a much better job of cleaning myself and my kids have also become more responsible in lending a hand.

DD and I have started going back to our hairdresser. Hairdresser is vaccinated and we both wear our masks. She is not allowing people to wait in the salon and no walk-ins. I am still cutting my DH's hair because he actually loves my haircuts and is looking quite dashing.

I am willing to endure wearing masks and not travelling if the schools open in the Fall and remain open. I am angry about people who are jeopardizing the school openings by not being vaxxed and not masking.

I have 2 unvaccinated kids under 12.

Flew in March. Will fly again this weekend and again in August. We've also been dining out indoors since January.

Not everyone with unvaccinated kids is terrified.

+1

We’re flying, dining indoors, going to birthday parties, seeing family, and my kids go to summer camp every day unmasked.

DP here. I have always washed and dried fruits and veggis before the pandemic. This is because I want to make sure that there are no bugs and fruit fly eggs on them and that I got rid of pesticide residue. Secondly, I always semi-process my veggies before putting in the fridge so that I have less work to do when I want to use it. For me the pandemic protocol was only marginally more work. I am also not the person who steers far from vinegar, salt and water for cleaning produce or potassium permanganate for fruits, so I was not dousing stuff in Lysol. I am more apt now to let the dry rations remain in the foyer for a few days before I put it away. All my cans were always washed in water and soap to protect against leptospirosis, and I am very careful about hygiene in food prep from the ingredients, to tools and food prep surfaces.

Yeah, you're pretty much the last holdout.

We're traveling, eating out (indoors), shopping, visiting friends and family, going to church etc.

You do you, though.

No. Not even close to the last. You’re not alone, OP.

We did do a beach house early in June. Now it’s so hot unless you are going way up north. I am just surprised that those with under 12 go to universal or museums or dine indoors. No judgment either way. This was just sharing.

You definitely do not have zero anxiety issues.

Well, you mistakenly think you can diagnose a stranger with a mental disorder from an internet post, so you’re an imbecile, and sadly there’s no cure for that.

Thanks to a jab I can do public places and travel. I'm even planning a Vietnam itinerary which I used to do a while ago. I really miss travelling and I do hope this pandemic will be over soon. Or at least for people who got vaccinated. I can't stay home anymore. I miss friends, meetings, being abroad.

+1. Or common sense. Do you know any kids sick with covid? Have there been a lot of very ill children? Do you even know of a child who has been negatively affected from covid besides a mild cold? If anything, I haven’t heard of a sick kid in months. How many more months will you need to resume living a normal life? What exactly will it take for you? I’m more scared of my child drowning in a pool than covid.
