People who think of education in terms of the schools that they see on TV. That is the type of thinking that resulted in our current presidential situation. |
Someone is on the pipe again. I'm sorry that LACs rejected your kid but it is time to move on. |
DEI admit for the South |
Shame on you! |
| Originally from the west coast and I hadn't heard of any until we moved here I and I heard about Dickenson. I have never heard of F&M. |
Shut up. State Univ have massive name recall and have QS ranking. Who sends their kids to LACs, may be moron like you. |
Probably why you are showing yourself to be neither highly educated or wealthy. |
This was the first response in this thread and it is 100% correct. |
| I've vaguely heard of all of them but if you asked me where they were or which was better I could not tell you. |
QS is a bullshit ranking designed to make Chinese Universities appear better than they are. It is marginally applicable to grad schools but nothing else. You are an engineer, clever but not thoughtful which will limit your career prospects as you have been trained rather than educated. |
Unfortunately, the bolded is true of too many people in our society today. |
| Dickinson College was thee first college created after the U.S. was founded. It was founded by signers of the Declaration of Independence. It’s a name drop for going to graduate school. No doubt there. |
+1 I only really learned about them when DD decided she wanted a small school so we looked at most of the LACs in the mid-Atlantic. With LACs you aren't going there for wide name recognition. You are going there for a particular learning environment, strength of reputation for grad school, and strength of specific program. DD ended up at a different LAC that nobody has heard of. Except people in her field know it and it has a strong network in DC for that field. FWIW I'd also never heard of JMU, UMW, CNU, Towson, UMBC, etc. before I moved to the DC area. Just like the LACs, non-flagship public universities are largely regional in reputation. And that's totally fine. |
This is your standard response to any post that does not praise LACs. It is rude and unwarranted. |
| I don't think any of these schools have better name recognition than the others. I always tell my DC when they mention the school they attend, and someone responds, "I've never heard of that school." It says a lot more about that person than it does about the school. |
