What to expect at pediatrician visit for birth control?

Pediatrician gave birth control pill prescription and did pregnancy / STD test (negative) but suggested planned parenthood. Going there in next
few days. This is really hard. Hope others don’t have to face it. I don’t approve of sec at 14 but I have to be realist. Can’t I ring this bell. I just have to try to keep her safe. Thank you to the understanding posters

Hi there I work for Planned Parenthood (nurse practitioner) in a different part of the country so I don’t know what the clinics in the DMV are like but I’m glad that your pediatrician gave this advice. We are really really good at talking to teens about birth control. We really do stay up-to-date on least research and guidelines and present the information in a non-judgemental way (at least where I work.) I hope you have a good experience and feel taken care of there. An additional note is for obvious reasons Planned Parenthood clinicians tend to take mandated reporting responsibilities very seriously, you may want to prepare your DD for more questions than just the “do you feel safe at home” type stuff that she gets at the pediatrician. She’s not going to be required to have any sort of exam to get birth control (unless, obviously she gets an IUD) but some of the safety and screening questions may feel new and different if she’s never talked with someone about sexual decision-making before.
