I'll put it this way, Biblical scholars of every persuasion believe a man named Jesus walked on the face of the earth and was crucified by Pontius Pilate. I also believe there were supernatural happenings that occurred during and following this event. What were they? Can't tell you. I also wonder why the disciples, with nothing to gain spread his teachings and risked hardships.

I refuse to believe this whole story is a fairy tale people have passed on for centuries. Not there with believing in eternal life yet.

Why not? there are plenty of stories passed on for centuries -- for instance, the lock ness monster and all those other religions that you don't believe in at all.

Why are you trying to infuse with logic something that isn’t supposed to be logical?

You’re just supposed to believe it.

Because most of this stuff is told by people over generations .. and they want you to believe in something that you should not question.

It is very curious that when God appears to some profets there are no witnesses. Right?

If religion would not be helpful it would die. It is helpful. It helps parents to raise kids because fear of God does that. It helps Kings to rule countries.. It helps to finance lots of causes...

Religions can be killed, too, because whoever conquered you is of another religion.

Smart conquerors through the history did not kill off the entire population due to different religion. They either converted them
forcefully or let them worship whatever they did so far as long as they paid taxes .. see Romans vs Judea.

“20:42” here. The disciples spread his teachings and risked hardships because they believed in Jesus’s teachings and, if my supposition (that Jesus was mostly dead when he was taken off the cross and survived his wounds) is correct, they believed that that was a miracle (and again, surviving puncture wounds like that in the Iron Age? Kind of a miracle). So they shared his teachings.

If you don’t believe in eternal life, I can’t help you do so. I’m not advocating for a belief in a gated heaven at which St Peter guards the gates, but there is lots of soft evidence (not courtroom-level hard evidence) of the existence of a soul and that the energy in the soul continues forever. Netflix’s Surviving Death, especially the reincarnation and near death experience episodes, has about as much evidence as a person can have to that end, but if you don’t want to believe, I can’t make you believe nor would I try.

And if you’re interested in the early church, don’t forget that the women were instrumental in the early church and were then slowly excised from the historical record. https://www.amazon.com/Mary-Early-Christian-Women-Leadership-ebook/dp/B07NZT14J3

To say that Jesus "Redeemed" humanity is to say that He saved us from ourselves - our sin, which is what separates us from God. We are all sinners - everyone of us - me, you, every DCUM reader, everyone. Sin and God cannot co-exist. So because we have it in our lives, we cannot be reunited with God, either here on earth or in the afterlife in Heaven.

Jesus took that sin, died on the cross, went to hell and rose again from the dead. He conquered sin, and death and through Him, we can have the same victory. It is the ultimate redemption because we could never be good enough or in any other way save ourselves. He is our only hope.

Why did He do it? Because God so loved us. He literally sent His Son to die for us in an attempt to get us back.

No problem with being rude, eh?

I'm the person you are responding to. Thank you for your points. I'm very interested in the historical Jesus. How did the church get started? What was the first building with a cross on it, etc.

Netflix? Seriously? It's not exactly a serious source of scientific information

You’re just supposed to believe it.

Right. Religion is something you feel and believe and have faith in. If you can't, then you can't really be religious.

You can go through the motions -- like a lot of people did who were forced to convert (e.g., Jew to Christian) in order to stay alive, but you're not really religious without faith and belief.

I take it you’re not Jewish.
