Is this a change? I thought the next RTS meeting wasn't until June?

Yes, they wanted to meet earlier because they need to finalize the details for the virtual option. This way parents would know what they are signing up for.

That's too reasonable for this school system. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Of course they still have time to find a way to make the virtual option as bad for both virtual and in-person students and teachers as possible.

They did figure it out. The virtual option that will be presented at the board meeting next week has the full backing of principals and the teacher associations.

Any more info? All I want to know is that it's not disruptive to RTS.

Agree with the question on more info. That proposal sounds like FCPS online campus expanded, if it got backing from the associations. No board docs for May 4 yet; looking forward to seeing what they plan and hoping for no concurrent. My kids have been and will be in-person.

FCPS has not posted any documents yet. Is the virtual option that has the full backing of principals and the teachers associations asynchronous learning (watching recordings) with maybe some kind of check-in with a teacher?

Absolutely not. Basically it will be a separate virtual school run by FCPS. Students will not be part of their base school. And admission will be really difficult and require medical documentation. This is what the principal and teacher associations support.

FCPS never posts board docs until either the night before or the day of an evening meeting.

But they've never really said admissions will be difficult, they just said that they'll require medical documentation. So if a doctor writes a note for a fourth grade student saying that they have anxiety and because there's no vaccination at an elementary level that the student should take virtual, do we really think FCPS will say no?

They have to be careful how they position this to avoid going down a "student ADA" rabbit hole that causes staffing/logistics issues. But as long at the guiding principle is that this is a separate track that won't hamstring or interfere with in-person, they'll just have to figure it out.
