FCPS Fall 2021 - Possible to Partner with Virtual Virginia?

Anonymous
I had only casually entertained VAVA for next year, but you guys are selling it well. Thank you!

In 2021-22, will the Commonwealth and FCPS accept all of the credits from VAVA or Virtual VA? This has been an issue for my kids while trying to take care of prerequisites. The counseling office says they don’t accept them.

Virtual VA can cause some problems, but VAVA doesn't. VAVA is a full-time public school, so transferring between it and the local brick and mortar is no trouble.

Unlike Virtual VA, you can't take individual courses at VAVA. You're either enrolled full time or you're not.

Cross-posting this question from the non-FCPS board:

For those with students enrolled in the full-time VAVA high school, about how many hours per day/week are they engaged in synchronous learning, where they need to be online for a class at a certain time/day? TIA.

It's not a better education.

Does LCPS foist IB only with no AP on some of its schools? Virtual Virgina has no IB, so students who've already started the full diploma won't have a virtual option. FCPS created this problem with its stupid insistence on IB only schools. It won't do virtual Virginia for this reason.

It actually was this year.
In a normal year, depends on how your child’s individual school and teacher were.

Is this based on first-hand experience?

FCPS could partner with Virtual Virginia or Virtual Virginia Academy, but they don't like losing the $$$ for student funding. So they won't.

If you mean concurrent 5 days a week. Otherwise that doesn't make sense.

Yeah, that is a surefire way to exacerbate the teacher shortage.

No concurrent. Concurrent is a stopgap for this school year. It is not an acceptable for a regular school year especially with how behind the kids will be.

Agree. I don’t care where the virtual forever people go, but they can’t be allowed to railroad regular classroom experiences and learning.

You haven't even tried concurrent, you have no clue how it's going to work.
