Net worth and type of car

Anonymous
I posted above, we have a 3M net worth, but the vast majority of that is in retirement accounts, home equity and college savings. Our HHI is 375K. Our car is worth about 40K and it is relatively new, we live in DC near a metro and are a 1 car family. We have a nice life, but I don’t see us affording a Tesla or Mercedes. Maybe it is that we do not care, but honestly we would be happy with a luxury car. But we have other wants that we choose to spend money on over an 80K car. Maybe in retirement after the kids have been put through college we will buy a fancy car.

700k nw and 325k hhi. We ar win our 30s with two little ones in daycare. We drive a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 2014 Honda Accord. Not gonna lie I would love to have an Audi or Volvo but I’m semi cheap. I’m thinking of trading in my accord for a used CR-V

800k net worth. Cars exotic enough that if I wrote them by name, anyone who lives near me would know it was me.

My friend an anesthesiologist owns three Porsche’s! My friend from a large DC firm drives a Maserati. He says almost all his partners drive fancy cars.

Those are pretty rare examples of hitting a stereotype. Most big law partners I know drive boring cars --- subarus and mid-grade SUVs.

Drive around McLean or Bethesda up Elm street going out of downtown some time. Some rich people in these places are driving BMWs Range Rovers Mercedes and Porsche. I’ve not seen a high end new construction home without a fancy car. In fact every doctor I can think of I’ve over known drives a Mercedes or Porsche.

True. That's the reality in the real world, not the dcum fiction.

We live in mclean. Our kids attend public school. I would say half the cars are Range Rovers, Teslas, Mercedes, etc. I don’t see as many minivans as DCUM suggests. I drive a 7 passenger SUV. DH has a Porsche 911 in our garage. Our immediate neighborhood has all nice cars. The homes on our block are $2-5m and no one drives an old Honda Odyssey or old beat up Toyota. Maybe some of the housekeepers.

This post says a lot. A lot.

+1 None of it flattering.

Some of the cars being mentioned here as modest are not cheap and can easily cost half of an average American’s annual household income when purchased new.

$2m. I don't drive.

$1.7 m NW and a Korean sedan and minivan. Cars not really part of my identity, but I can see the attraction of a luxury one. Don’t care that much personally though! Our minivan was expensive enough!

We're not car people. To those who say lawyers all drive fancy cars: nope (at least not my DH, who's a BigLaw partner).

I am surprised there aren't more electric cars with all these high net worths.
