Um, the original thread was asking what went on in admissions committees, not for the musings of home-brewed social scientists about WPPSI and IQ. So, you're welcome, Petunia Pedant. |
if the original admissions folks are still around, I wonder how having two children apply (siblings but not twins, if that matters) in the same year affects the chances of admission for either child. Does the answer differ if our family seeks some FA? thanks. |
I've never served on an admissions committee, but a friend who does advised me that applying both our kids at the same time would increase our chances (we had originally just planned on applying for K for the older and having our younger one do pre-K at our nice, but much less expensive, preschool). I would guess whether this holds true for a family seeking FA would depend largely on the school, and perhaps how much FA you'd need. |
Would love to know the same. Though details vary, in the two cases I know of, it didn't work out. |
the World Bank no longer pays children's tuition for staff hired after June 1999. |
Bumped for 2014
I came across this thread searching for a question that one of the new threads brought to mind (who sits on admissions committees). I found it interesting and thought I'd bump it up for anyone else new to this board who might be in the thick of the process now. |
Thank you for bumping the thread as it is relevant now. |
FWIW. During the interview process at a top tier, my DS had a meltdown and literally turned the table upside down. It was for Kindergarten. Anyway, it was bad and I was certain he wasn't getting in. You can imagine how mortified I was. As it turns out, he got in. He's an articulate, outgoing and kind boy who had a rough morning. |
If the admissions insiders are still around ...
How are re-admits considered? If a child attended a school for a year or two, moved away, moved back and applied for admission. Child's time at the school was successful and student has been successful since. Does their application carry more weight because they attended in the past? |
DK and am not going to scroll up in thread, but our DC#2 had a tantrum in parking lot before his very last interview for K. Nice woman asked to help and I basically brushed off. Much to my horror, she was one of the observers. Fortunately DC#2 pulled it together before interview started and got in. Observer gave me a nice smile @ wrap. Sure she had BTDT. |
Bump for great info in the first 80% of the thread. |
It would give the child a leg-up over the other applicants assuming everyone left in good standing. |
This thread was dead and buried, as it should be because its turgid.
What a sad, myopic life some folks lead. |
Yet you find time in your brilliant sojourn on this earth to carefully peruse DCUM. You are an inspiration to us all! |
Bumping this informative thread as it's still relevant. Hopefully the admissions committee contributors are still around to answer as the quoted is our situation. Thanks. |
