I walk all through Vienna. To the bank. To Whole Foods. To get ice cream. To dinner. It is really nice.

Vienna is very walkable and nice. A lot of information is way outdated. Yes 50 years ago it was a very far out suburb. No now. If you want REAL urban walkablity you will either be paying for private schools or ... most people are not very happy with Alexandria public schools. MvLean isn’t very walkable but it is VERY expensive.

Vienna isn’t very walkable. The vast majority of the retail is on a single street that is a major commuter artery. It’s nothing like Old Town.

Our city officials have done a great job purposefully mucking up the system so that it is impossible to get around the city, like to the doctor's office or the dentist or anyplace else, without it taking an extraordinarily long time. Driving the 2-3 miles from Alexandria Hospital and the medical building on Seminary to Old Town takes at least 45 minutes to an hour in the afternoons (I know because we've clocked it) because of the new traffic patterns. Somehow the city has lost its way. Maybe it will be better in November once the rascals are voted out and the new people clean house in City Hall but that turnaround will take time.

Honestly, we live two blocks off of King Street without off-street parking and it has been completely fine. Two car household. I’d love to see your data that cars are routinely stolen in Old Town north of King St. Are cars occasionally broken into? Sure. But flat out stolen? No. I also live North of King St and it’s hardly the way you are describing it.

The Police Department will provide you with the data. It has been the discussion of our neighborhood civic association for perhaps 3 meetings running. It is a problem throughout the city, not just that area. You also can get a feel for it reading the Real Estate section in WaPo.

Funny thing is, I attended the Alexandria City Citizens Police Academy recently and personally asked the police chief what his biggest concern was, and it was....TRAFFIC. Not car thefts. And, I also read the WaPo Real Estate section and City of Alexandria car thefts aren’t a topic. If you want to make your point, then post the articles you are referring to. Otherwise, quit the fear mongering. Yes as you point out, it is a problem throughout the city. I was only addressing Old Town because that was the point of the post. If you're worried about it then check out the comments on NextDoor and FaceBook. It isn't fearmongering when you state facts that are easily verifiable. Residents are talking about it. A lot. Verify it yourself. Yes, obviously traffic is a problem (#JustinsTrafficJam and #TakeBackSeminaryRoad) but we also have an uptick in car theft and thefts from cars.
