NYU

NYU is also ranked 17th in the world by Times Higher Ed for arts and humanities education (just below Columbia and Penn and above Duke and Cornell). Tisch and Stern get all the attention, but the faculty in CAS is impressive, including some huge names in the writing program. The NYC location is a big draw for professors, too.

Yes although the NYC location is both a blessing and a curse. Very expensive for younger professors and grad students, and NYU has to end up paying more in order to maintain quality of life.

NYU is GW in NYC

+1. Same tier as Tulane and SMU.

All city schools that is about it. US news. NYU 29, GW 70, Tulane 40 and SMU 64. NYU is 29 in the times global and 30 in the times US, it’s also 35 in Forbes 2019. I think your information may be dated just like you. Stuck in a loop of old information.

Oh look, a striver tiger mom who obsessively studies the US News list.

Oh look a dumb southerner that loves smu and Tulane. Probably scared of N.Y.

Several friends of DD went there. Both smart and have thrived. They knew exactly what they wanted out of the experience job-wise (one works in fashion, another wanted a career in finance) and focused all efforts towards those goals (classes, internships, networking etc). My DD thought about it but wanted a college experience with quads, sports, greek scene etc and needed those first 1-2 years at a SLAC to figure things out. NYC / NYU is great if you can maximize the experience but otherwise easy to get lost.

Definitely not on this planet.

Anonymous wrote:I'd never send my daughters to undergrad in NYC even if it were free. Especially one without sports and traditional on-campus entertainment. NYU kids all go clubbing and bounce around the city mingling with random people. At least boys in frats or whatever have been vetted by admissions - who's vetting the random creeps your gullible teen daughter meets around NYC? Nobody! In December there was just a random homicide of that Columbia gal uptown in Harlem.

Right because there are no date rapist frat boys out there? Do you think the admissions "vetting" process includes asking them about their options on binge drinking and bro-culture?!
I went to a top southern school and drunken sexual assaults were run-of-the-mill. OMG enjoy your bubble.

Sexual assault on university campuses has been a serious problem for decades.

"In December there was just a random homicide of that Columbia gal uptown in Harlem."

Don't send your kid to BU, there was just a random homicide of that UMass Boston gal in Dorchester.

Grad programs are top rate at NYU- Arts, Business, Health Research, Law and Medicine.

This draws fabulous faculty too.

Agree encourage your child to examine the programs of interest then do further research into the culture.

Good luck!

1000+

Plus both Stern and Tisch are great programs with high caliber students. Think the acceptance rate is below 5%.

Say what you will, but NYU is a very popular college choice....some programs are very hard to get into.

went for graduate school for a small, well respected program - many years ago now. NYU had recently become the "It" school...not just a local college. There was lots to do - lots of internships, discount tickets to sports and theater, free NYU sponsored language classes, religious clubs, church. Everyone I knew loved their program - but hated the university. working the system was tough. and it was expensive...even with generous financial aide at the time. but there's nothing like living in New York!

Would nyu undergraduate be similar to Northeastern? Low admission rate and decent schools, but not T20? I know Northeastern is ranked lower, but asking from a prestige perspective.
