Would you rather have a baby at 20 or 40?

40. Was never even interested in kids til then.

I was only interested in adopting, and no agency will allow a woman to adopt at 20. So of course 40. Which I did.

I think it’s easier at 20, so that’s my vote

Although ideally it would be closer to 25

I recently went to my 30th High School reunion. The only women I met who had kids before 30 were those who did not go to college. Interesting.

Had my first and only at 39 . Like other posters, I adopted mine. So, 40.

20. My kids are amazing people and I wouldn’t want to miss out on so many years with them.

I had my first at 27, PP. I had two Ivy League degrees as well. Plenty of people start before 30.

How out of shape are you people that you are tired in your 40s?? My lids energize me. I had my kids at 40 and 42 and am now early 50s. I love all the activity. I have never been a couch potato and your children are the best shot you have at staying active. We just walked to Baskin Robbins (1 mile) and back again for an after-dinner treat.

Sheesh. Have your kids at 40 and stay active!

27, 28, 29 is different than 20. By 27, most people are working FT.

?? What does that have to do with anything?

I also know folks with Masters and Phd.'s from Ivies and non-Ivies and they had kids before 30. What is the obsession with DCUM members saying this? Can't you just say college and grad school?

Single mom by choice and by adoption. First adoption at 38, 2nd at 40. Exactly my plans from the time I was 20.

Exactly. Worlds away really. Would it have been possible to get those degrees with one or more kids in tow, the first one you would have sophomore/junior year of college? Maybe. Really fighting the odds though.

Would it have been possible to simply get out of her parents' basement with one or more small children to take care of.

2 years out of HS with no degree and little to no work experience is vastly different than a 27 year old with two college degrees and 5 or so years of full time work experience in a professional setting.

Ha! My mom says the same thing - except obviously she’s a grandmother talking about taking her grandchildren to get ice cream or go swimming or hiking.

My mom is 55.

When i was 20 and in college every 20 year old I knew who got pregnant terminated. Happened to 3 girls in my dorm alone over those 4 years. We all took up a collection for them so they did not have to go to their parents about it. A couple of others while in high school, too. They had college plans so terminated. No one dropped out of college just to have a kid.

I knew 20 year olds who carried to term, but they were mostly working retail-type jobs and were not in college.

How odd! Where did you go to high school? I am a pp who had her first child in her 20's and I graduated college, as did all of my friends who had kids before 30.
