Are you going to send a mask with your kid to school?

It seems safe to assume that we will have very effective treatment options by Fall. As a matter of fact it probably won't even take that long according to Dr. Fauci. Once the mortality rate is no more than regular influenza, I really don't see how to justify keeping schools closed.

Fauci didn't say any such thing.

Dr. Fauci says he expects FDA to issue an authorization to use Remdesivir to treat Covid-19. This is very good news indeed.

There's a whole lot of space between "have an authorized treatment for" and "have very effective treatments for"/"reduce the fatality rate to regular influenza".

Fauci is being forced to give this statement by Trump.

Remdesivir was only 30% effective in measurably helping patients. It was given in the worst case situations. It may be better in patients with lesser symptoms, but this is something you will only ever get in a hospital on life support for a very long time.

NP. About 30000 people die from influenza each year. After this initial wave's herd immunity and better treatment, I would think it is reasonable to expect lower mortality rate due to coronavirus.

Yes, I think it's reasonable to expect the pandemic to be over when the pandemic is over.

However, this discussion is about school before the pandemic is over.

By initial wave, I obviously mean this spring. Number of deaths from any potential new wave in the future should be expected to be less.
