Sure I’d try for a few months. be sure to introduce a bottle early, like at 3 weeks. I’d wean a month before going back. |
I would pump and feed breast milk, with some formula introduced early on as well. |

I would do nursing, pumping, and formula. You want to be sure baby knows how to drink from a bottle. (Mine just couldn't transition off the breast to bottle, he'd drink a couple of ounces in day care and then nurse all evening/night.)
You may still have enough milk to nurse mornings/evenings without having to pump during the day. Or you may dry up quickly. |
formula now has the omegas that match almost all the health benefits of breast. do whatever you want. |
No, but I don't have kids so it would be weird if I did |
Do what you want to do OP. The biggest person this choice impacts is you, your life, your well being, you. Your kid will be fine either way and the best clear benefits actually are about your own health (reduction of certain cancers) so make this decision about what you want and tune everything else out. |
You don’t need to get him used to formula. It’s very sweet, he won’t have a problem taking it. Bottles yes. But look into advantages of EBF over supplementing before you add in formula so early. It’s like a one week transition at most, you just gradually add formula an oz at a time to BM. |
This is not true. There are many babies who hate formula and won’t take it. |
OP has stated REPEATEDLY that she DOES want to breastfeed. |
The research shows there are clear benefits of breast milk in the first 3-4 months or so, after that formula is just as good. So I would say try it and you can always switch to formula anytime. You may be surprised at how much you end up liking nursing. I was that way - even after I quit pumping I still had enough milk to nurse DD when we were together, and she took formula while I was at work. The only thing I regret was how long I pumped. Never again! |
I am exclusively hand expressing when away from baby #2 and let me tell you it is such a game changer. I watch Netflix or read while I do it. My insurance pump is still unpacked and the baby is going on 7 months. |
Formula feed. |
If I knew I would have to wean by 3-4 months, no, I would just go immediately to formula. |
Lazy. |
