ILs giving us money

My parents are always giving us money, and pay for private school, vacations with them, etc. My husband felt uncomfortable about it at first but now is fine with it. What he likes he even more is that they'll watch the kids so we can go on vacation alone!

We receive trust money disbursements quarterly from FIL family trust.

I do not complain, resent nor am I confused by this.

Thank your lucky stars OP and do some good (whatever your form of "good" is - college funds, charitable donations etc.) with it. You can't take it with you, much like your IL's. It's a really, really, really lucky position to be in.

It depends on how controlling they are. My DH's parents have offered multiple times to pay for vacations, private school tuition, etc and we always refuse the money. Nothing in life is free and most of the time, this "free money" has strings attached.
Baby boomers are some of the most controlling types who want you to need them in every way.
Say thanks but no thanks and pay your own way. When they pass, you can inherit what's left for you.

If I were your IL's and caught wind that this was your attitude, you definitely wouldn't be inheriting what was left for you. Glad you can pay your own way, and happy to give you that experience!
