It is idiotic for them to potentially go after Reed because they will be cannibalizing their own supporters. The school is very clearly split and they desperately need neighborhood seats in that area anyway.

Wow. Charming. Way to take the high road, McKinley. "Let's all get behind screwing someone else."

That's how it goes.......

I guess we are past the denial stage...are we bargaining yet?

All school communities around Reed and McKinley are going to change dramatically. They wouldn't if Reed became the option school. But that ship has sailed. They are getting their neighborhood school. And McKinley gets to stay together. So it does seem weird to me that they harbor so much resentment towards the other schools around them (ie, Tuckahoe and Nottingham and apparently Discovery?) Do these folks like anyone??

The ship has not sailed. The SB can just as easily change its mind and make Reed an option school. That would be the best for everyone. The only reason the SB is even considering moving up to 5 schools and thousands of kids and other programs is because neighborhood seats are not needed in that area.

No. That's what the Jonny come lately don't understand. With or without Reed, McKinley was going to change because it's WAY too overcrowded. They should take this as a win and start planning the new PTAs.

McKinley still has 243 walkers, even with all the kids going to Reed. This decision isn't being made based on walkability.

McKinley's current walkers are in the planning units south of 66 that will probably be moved to Ashlawn. The 40% walkability in the Options are those walkable in planning units north of 66.

McKinley does NOT stay together. The planning units south of 66 will probably be moved to Ashlawn.

Some of them will also be walkers to Ashlawn, so they won't even become bus riders.

A large portion of McKinley moves together even if it isn't the Reed group. You had 785 students at the end of September. Somebody had to move. I guess it's just OK as long as it's someone else. The "#saveMcK" thing is so disingenuous.

No, Wilson is classified as a street that only middle and high school students can cross.

They can change that with a crossing guard. I spoke with transportation about it at a previous meeting.

I have it on decent authority that staff are not really going to tolerate the cannabalizng other school communities this go round. So I’d give up on finger pointing at Reed or Nottingham. SB just wants this over. Fast.

That means affected communities need to focus their efforts on making sure boundary adjustments don't create overcrowded schools. We will have enough seats in the right places. If I was the Ashlawn/McK crew, I'd be pushing for verification of numbers going into McK and if I was Reed/McK, I'd make sure they wouldn't put the school over 100% on opening. We all know how that worked out.

Oops! Make sure they don't overcrowd Ashlawn, not McK. Ashlawn is going to give up seats to the Orange Line schools anyway.

Yes! It is very hard to argue with the moving of the schools. But the boundary process that follows needs to be closely monitored to make sure they are reasonably balanced. They are all gonna have to be close to 100% at opening. But let's try to be sure no school is disproportionately over. Because we need 3 more elementary schools! So, let's not have what we saw with Swanson middle school where no one wants to leave and everyone fights to stay! Boundaries, people!
