Why are Subarus so popular in the DC area?

What is with the sensitive Subaru owners on here?

If you drive a subaru then own it - you are driving an SUV that gets poor mileage in a warming world.

You are not really the sensitive progressive environmentalist that subaru convinces you you are in their ads.

Your life must be so miserable. For people like you, everything is a “war” that must be fought.

Thanks for ruining a perfectly good thread by ascribing tribal political signaling to a mundane car buying decision.

We are a family of three. I don't need a minivan or a huge SUV, but I wanted something bigger than a sedan to handle bikes and gear and carpools and dogs. Subarus get excellent ratings on reliability and safety. They are much more reasonably priced than Volvos, Mercedes and other more luxury brands. The Forester and CR-V did not have the same cargo capacity and legroom as the Outback. It's been the perfect car for my family.

Mine was.

I wanted it and I bought it.

Completely rational and around 14MPG. Wouldn’t trade it for anything

I hope it has a good air conditioner - you are going to need it in our rapidly warming world.

It's actually great. When its warm or cold I use the remote start to cool it off or warm it up for 10-15 minutes - works great

Great - you are doing your part to warm the planet not just when you are driving your gas guzzler but when it is needlessly idling!

It's not needless. It's either too hot or too cold to get in it without running it first.

You run your car for 15 minutes to cool it??? I live in FL and I get IN the car, start it and put down the windows-while running the ac- to cool it! You don't need to run it like that. If I did that, it would be cold enough to store raw meat in.

Usually 10, sometimes 15

I think you just notice the Subaru’s more as they are always below the speed limit and unable to figure out four way stop signs. Like a white Cadillac, the favorite car of the elderly.

Based on the women in my family and elderly neighbors, the Subaru is the new old lady car of choice.
