Mine was.

I wanted it and I bought it.

Completely rational and around 14MPG. Wouldn’t trade it for anything

I hope it has a good air conditioner - you are going to need it in our rapidly warming world.

Soooo reliable, excellent safety. Reasonably priced. I do have guilt about the mileage, but I convince myself that the fact that my commute is 6 miles round trip makes it okay.

Also, the AWD does come in handy as I work in health care and taking a 'snow day' is never going to be permissible.

Mostly rational. It's a crossover SUV with AWD. No, it won't see off-road but given the handling of snow by the local governments it's handy. It is (or was) the only compact SUV with a heating steering wheel available at the time of purchase. And it's fairly light being unit body construction. No heavier than a sedan anyway. The non rational bit was the color. The wife wanted a color she could find in a parking lot.

It's actually great. When its warm or cold I use the remote start to cool it off or warm it up for 10-15 minutes - works great

Well, my Subaru ascent was Cheaper than the equivalents Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander. Also it has second row bucket seats. And a million cup holders and outlets. So, those are factors that affect my buying decisions.

Car buying is not an emotional or political decision,

Except for all those people who refuse to buy a minivan even though it would meet their needs best.

To drive to Vermont over winter holidays.

What’s with the judgmental Subaru haters? Bizarre that you are profiling people on their mundane car choice. It’s not a Bentley for crying out loud.

Great - you are doing your part to warm the planet not just when you are driving your gas guzzler but when it is needlessly idling!

What is with the sensitive Subaru owners on here?

If you drive a subaru then own it - you are driving an SUV that gets poor mileage in a warming world.

You are not really the sensitive progressive environmentalist that subaru convinces you you are in their ads.

+1

I like my remote start, too. But 5 minutes is enough. 15 is beyond excessive. -NP

It's not needless. It's either too hot or too cold to get in it without running it first.

My 2016 Forester routinely gets between 32 and 40 mpg for my drive in (depends on traffic). Admittedly the mileage is terrible sitting in traffic, but then that is everything except hybrids and EVs, which have their own issues because of battery toxicity and the fact that most electric power is still coal-generated. So I'm not sure what is up with all the Subaru hate when other cars beloved by the board -- e.g., the Honda Fit -- get worse mileage.

Not everyone wants an SUV or a minivan. My Subaru Outback is perfect for strollers, kids bikes, and other bulky stuff. I’ve always driven a hatchback and my first car was a station wagon handed down from my parents. I like wagons and Subaru makes a nice one.
