Are there any millenials who think tattoos are trashy?

Neither my husband nor I have tattoos ('82 and '85)

I’m more private with my thoughts/feelings- Don’t need to post them and don’t need them on my body. When I go through something great/hard/memorable/painful- my first inclination is not to put it on my body or post it. I will remember it- can’t help but do so-for better or worse.

So when I see tattoos I do assume that person is more superficial/needs attention somehow- not necessarily trashy.

Older millennial here. DH has multiple tattoos, none of which are visible in typical work attire. I have zero, but no particular aversion to them, just never felt compelled to get one. I tend to like them in other people when it's part of their style and not an ill-advised choice from high school.

Neither DH nor I are on social media, by the way.

For the PP suburban dad who wanted to know what to get....I recommend going to Bethesda tattoo and looking at their books. They have some talented artists working there and some really beautiful stuff. I would never get a tattoo but I can appreciate their talent.
I also recommend something nature based (like a bird or tree). Nature endures in a way that ironic cartoon characters, cultural references, political statements, etc. do not. Animals can also be a little cliche (wolf, dolphin, lion, etc.) because they seem too referential (like “I’m a tough loner so I have a lone wolf on my arm—get it?” Yes, we get it.)

Please please please please please do not get a Chinese tattoo unless:
1.) you speak and read Chinese and you know the cultural reference and relevance of the Chinese word--you don't want people who are able to read Chinese laugh at you because your tattoo effectively meaningless and just random words put together. Chinese words are not alphabets and each character has a meaning.
2.) you get it from an actual tattoo artist who meets the first criteria.

I wouldn't think you would be.

You know who doesn't think tattoos are trashy?

Trashy people.

I’m a millennial with no tattoos but almost all my friends do. Definitely don’t think they’re trashy.

Some are trashy and some aren't.

- millennial, no tattoos

Some are trashy, most are just basic. There’s nothing remotely subversive or interesting about getting a tattoo anymore.

+1
They’re just ugly. Ugly, basic and attention seeking.

Love the zombie thread.

Older millennial here and yes I think they are trashy. With that said, I have plenty of friends that have one or more. Just because someone has a tattoo doesn't mean they are a trashy person- just that they had poor taste at one time (in my opinion). But that is ok. I realize not everyone has the same taste as I do.

I am a 38 year old white male and I agree with this assessment.

“The white people.” If someone said a statement like this about “the black people” there would be mass anger. Eff you.
