Catholics: How do you still justify going to church or being a part of the church?

This is exactly us too.

Not so much anymore. We have tried intentionally to distance ourselves from the Catholic church. No church is perfect because people aren’t perfect. But we have women priests, we welcome everyone, we are LGTBQ friendly, and we don’t tolerate sex abuse. Just a few of the many differences. Also, Science. We know that bread and wine don’t literally magically transform into human flesh and blood just because a man in a collar says it does. And if it did, ew! cannibalism isn’t cool!

/former Catholic

So sad. Hope you will find your way home.

We’re happy, gone and not coming back.

So many more cover-ups in public schools. There's just not as much press about it because, well, that's a matter of opinion.

This. By OP's logic, public school parents should pull their kids out.

I love being Catholic. Scandals just make me want to work harder to avoid evil influences and side on the side of the right. Pray more, get involved with the lay people in your church. They will amaze you with their fortitude.

This, by pp's logic, all schools have predators, therefore catholic schools should be given a pass.

Yup, Episcopals never covered anything up. Not them. Contemporary Saints, that’s what they are. Examples of righteousness to us all.

Oh, wait . . .

Not to mention that Catholics are just wrong theologically. Martin Luther and the other Reformers proved it.

You're seriously trying to argue that our fractured public school system, with no single leader, is the same as the Catholic church? Really?

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

Martin Luther was full of shite, literally!

Which other reformers? They came to hate each other as much as they hated the Church. Luther, Melanchthon, Calvin, Zwingli, all spoke with scorn for each other at times. Luther’s own theology was based on an extreme form of scrupulosity and self-contempt.

Same, and same for my parents. Aside from the pervasive pedophilia with clergy, I don’t want my children brought up in an organization where women can’t be leaders. What a horrible signal for children.

Mother Teresa, Pope hugging her, Cardinals falling all over themselves to get close to her. Horrible signal.

You live in DC and you don't understand how the public school system in the US is organized, officially and unofficially?

Yeah it's great as long as you're cool with men making all of the decisions including the numerous decisions they've made to protect and cover up for pedophiles.

Yet, she wouldn’t be allowed to lead mass or be a priest.
