Read earlier posts, you will see discussions about hours. If you are a professional, rather than hourly, you don't get OT. It's part of the job. Otherwise just do the minimum required. There's no 194 day contract? Wierd. The FEA doesn't exist? Wierd. |
This just really shows you don't know what you are talking about and it may be no fault of your own. There is a 194 day contract. That is not negotiated. There is FEA (NEA's local) and event FCFT (AFT's local). Neither group negotiates the contract. There is no collective bargaining in VA. I went back and looked through the thread. I saw people explaining (not complaining) about hours worked. They were pointing out that teachers work more than some realize. I did not read where anybody said teachers work more than other professionals. |

I know someone else already covered this, but it can't be stressed enough. Your local district's Education Association is not a union. The VEA is not a union. They may have some important things to offer- guidance, legal aide, etc- but they're 100% optional to join and do not negotiate contracts with the state or districts. There are no teachers unions in Virginia. Period. |
