This!

How many teacher hating threads do we need? Don’t bitch — switch!

Oh, but then you’d have to actually work as a teacher & back up your (ignorant) words with your actions & you really know you wouldn’t last a full semester...

Many professionals are probably working at least as many hours as you all are if not more, and we aren't under a negotiated contract.

Did somebody say other professionals aren’t working as many hours or not more? I didn’t read that anywhere.

“Negotiated contract”? Do you realize you are on the “VA Public Schools” forum?

Read earlier posts, you will see discussions about hours.

If you are a professional, rather than hourly, you don't get OT. It's part of the job. Otherwise just do the minimum required.

There's no 194 day contract? Wierd. The FEA doesn't exist? Wierd.

This just really shows you don't know what you are talking about and it may be no fault of your own. There is a 194 day contract. That is not negotiated. There is FEA (NEA's local) and event FCFT (AFT's local). Neither group negotiates the contract. There is no collective bargaining in VA.

I went back and looked through the thread. I saw people explaining (not complaining) about hours worked. They were pointing out that teachers work more than some realize. I did not read where anybody said teachers work more than other professionals.

I know someone else already covered this, but it can't be stressed enough. Your local district's Education Association is not a union. The VEA is not a union. They may have some important things to offer- guidance, legal aide, etc- but they're 100% optional to join and do not negotiate contracts with the state or districts.

There are no teachers unions in Virginia. Period.
