We do this too. I absolutely loathe Thanksgiving food, especially turkey, so I like to fill up on apps before I have to push the turkey, stuffing, green beans, ppotatoes, etc demanded by the traditionalists around on a plate. The apps are the best part! |
| We serve various pickles, various olives, capers, pickles veggies with almost every dinner, because Italians believe a little vinegar aids digestion. |

Bumped for a PP who asked "What goes on a good relish tray?"
(FYI, this thread was started in 2018 and last updated in 2020.) A similar thread was Crudites and relish trays, but it was only a couple pages long. |
You are amazing to find and bump these threads! Very timely! |
This is a blast from the past. My grandmother's crystal relish tray also included radishes and cornichons. But, black olives, not green olives. |
| You are an old? |
We always had antipasto on Thanksgiving. Green and black olives, pickled artichoke hearts, marinated mushrooms, pepperoncini, and maybe some salami. |
| OMG! What is a relish tray? Is it like Banchan for White people? |
|
Thank you for resurrecting the Relish Tray post! My vintage crystal tray is ready to go.
Deviled eggs, grilled green olives, and black olives. Need to get baby pickles added to grocery list. PP: The Food & Cooking forum is for people with an interest in food, cooking, and holiday food traditions. |
| holy moley this relish tray is circa 1964 |

Okay?
Do you need help with that? Traditional things tend to be old. It's in the title -- you don't have to click on it. |
The grilled green olives are novel! I get those from TJs and they are amazing. Way to update the tray while keeping traditional flavors. |
Uh, no, it's like the cheese boards and charcuterie boards you see today, without the cheese and meats. It's all the other stuff. |
I forgot beets, sliced beets would also be on the tray. |
| We have a relish tray (deviled eggs, assortment of olives, stuffed celery, cornichons, etc.) because it pairs well with Bloody Marys, our traditional pre-Thanksgiving cocktail. |
