Educated memoir- Tara Westover

I guess the story would have been more “WOW” if her parents and brother were not geniuses. But she had the genetics to be a brainiac and her family let her go and helped her. They disapproved and were abusive, but they didn’t physically force her to stay or keep her locked up.

Still think that the glass castle is a more unbelievable story.

Mother and sister can be found by scrolling down on this page. Mother has same last name, and FB can be easily found using those names. From there, all the family members and pictures you’re looking for.

Who is Valaree?

Ok, I found the photos.

Either her dad had plastic story, or that story is completely made up. There is no way that made had his face blown off and now looks fine.

The sister, who tried to reconnect but then didn’t.

Yeah. I don’t understand how she thought people wouldn’t see pictures when her mothrr’s FB is wide open and on display.

And her name is the combo of their Dad and Mom's name.

There are many inconsistencies, and something seems off. I also have less sympathy for whites in these situations. I would be more moved if Tara was a black woman who escaped that sort of situation. We are awfully welcoming and forgiving of our own kind. I doubt she would have been treated as well in college had she been Tanisha from Anacostia.

Just saw this comment exchange on one of the Dad's up close photos (taken in 2009)

- "Soooo... obviously the explosion was exaggerared in Tara's book."

Reply by Mom Westover: "Obviously, as was . . . . ."

Reply from poster: "Sorry for any pain the book has caused. She's a phenomenal writer but maybe it should be reclassified as historical fiction"

Reply by Mom Westover: "Thanks Comments that don't tear into us and call us names are pretty rare."

Maybe the explosion was after 2009?

And on another photo:

"Is this Shawn?"

Reply by Mom Westover: "No, as there is no such person as "Shawn" - or Faye or Gene, for that matter. Please use this site for what is was intended - helping people and educating, not perpetuating the heartbreak of this myth of our beloved daughter's. Don't repost on this topic, please. I will be very unlikely to respond. Just think it through - and consider who gained what from the telling of this made-up story called "Educated". Seriously, so many contradictions . . . and so much heartache and pain."

Yes, the mother is invested in the father's version of reality, not her daughter's. That is shown in the book and in other comments elsewhere online.

There was a response letter from the parents' lawyer saying that the book is all lies, that Tara is crazy. The attorney generously states that, although the book is libelous, he has been instructed by the parents not to sue.

Agree. She is a pretty blond. She had brains and the resources to get into college.

I am sort of split 75/25 on how much I believe. I think it believe her story 75% and the other part really thinks that she made a lot of up.

I do think that Shawn abused her, and her mom and dad are responsible, though.

I don’t think her parents should have shunned her for going to college.

2018 photo of her dad (far away) doesn’t look too bad. His lips might be thinner. It’s hard to tell.

I found many inconsistencies too, the book has been way overhyped.

Oh, before I forget, you are a vile and racist person. Stop categorizing people by their skin color...hey, maybe Tara was treated so kindly not because she's white but because her narrative follows the typical Democrat "rural folks are crazy" BS...

True or not I found the description of abuse by her brother and father very triggering based on how alone and helpless she must have felt. No personal history myself but so triggering.

I think the abuse by her brother is 100% true. Look at Josh Duggar. These fundy boys take their suppressed energy out on their sisters.

I don’t believe ALL of the injury stories.

I do think her family shunned her for getting an education, which is wrong, obviously.
