Yes, the mother is invested in the father's version of reality, not her daughter's.  That is shown in the book and in other comments elsewhere online.

There was a response letter from the parents' lawyer saying that the book is all lies, that Tara is crazy.  The attorney generously states that, although the book is libelous, he has been instructed by the parents not to sue.[/quote]
