Anonymous wrote:Hi,

I'd like to resurrect this thread because I'm thinking of leaving my school and coming to DCPS. I am in the suburbs but I won't mention the school district. I read a lot of the advice but I'd like to know if anything has changed? I read that Antwan Wilson is gone, is this for the better? Have working conditions improved since "IMPACT" is no longer a thing? Please advise. Thank you.

You'd have better luck posting schools you are considering or willing to work at. There are extreme variations school to school. In the end though, you have to be a very flexible person able to deal with a lot of instability and unknowns. We're building the plane as we're flying it but no one knows what the parts are!

WHAT???!!!

If dealing with DCPS HR doesn’t scare you off, I will be impressed. They are the worst.

As scary as it sounds?

This year's audit was quite eye-opening.

Yeah, it's pretty rough. I miss the kids though. They had a level of tenacity and resiliency that I haven't seen in my suburban school. In a perfect world, I'd be able to craft a curriculum around their specific needs and incorporate subjects that are relevant and beneficial to them. Unfortunately, DCPS has a one size fits all approach that is so out of touch with reality that they don't even offer a TAG program. DCPS fails its kids on a consistent basis.

They're actually not that bad when you're trying to get a teaching job. It's the worst kept secret that a lot of teachers don't do half of the steps posted on the careers page in order to get hired.

I really think it depends on where you teach. I’ve taught at JKLMs and while I’ve cried and been stressed, I know it’s just typical teaching crap and nowhere near what others have posted. It’s hard work dealing with parents, but I don’t know if leaving would change that. There are days when I think of moving to MCPS but they won’t pay me why I make now. I can’t afford the pay cut now that I have children of my own.

OP, try an upper northwest school if they are hiring.
