If the service academies are so prestigious, why are they never discussed on DCUM?

I actually know a young woman from NOVA who was recently accepted into two of the academies (including the Naval Academy), I feel rather certain that her family did not have connections.

You don't want the truth, because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall. We use words like "honor", "code", "loyalty". We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said "thank you", and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post.

This guy better hope the screenwriter for "A Few Good Men" doesn't sue him for plagiarism.

LOL. Feel free to get yourself/your kids killed but don't ask me to honor you. It was your choice.

The disrespect in this statement is appalling. Have a modicum of respect for those who are willing to do what they do in order to protect our country. It's not a liberal or conservative issue. You frame this as not getting your kids killed, but remember that these people are actually helping to keep your children alive.

I'm a military wife and my husband will deploy this year. I find this so disheartening.

Seriously. PP, do you feel that way about cops/law enforcement? That no honor is necessary if they get killed in the line of duty protecting us, because that was their choice? WT living F.

Cops/law enforcement folks? yes. Military? No.

It's easy for girls to get in, the standards are far lower for diversity purposes.

I didn't realize there were so many people of our generation who haven't seen A Few Good Men. It's a great flick for a snow day...

Trite. Nothing more.

I strenuously object.

Well-played.

Hm, no. My daughter got in. The physical test was hard, and required at least three month training (and she was on two varsity teams in her school, so she was in good physical shape). Her GPA was 4.0/4.6, SAT 1540, ACT 35. She also got into two Ivy league schools, and three top state schools. Getting to the service academy was not that easy, don't full yourself.

Is class profile information for the service academies easily available - Mix of ethnicities, GPA/SAT scores, etc. ?

St. Anselm's Abbey, with fewer than 200 graduates total over the past five years, has sent boys to the Coast Guard Academy, Annapolis, and West Point during that span.

USNA graduate, wife of a St. Anselm's grad, and parent of a 10 year old for whom we are considering St. Anselm's. The school has an extraordinary focus on things like self-discipline, rigor, intellect, honor, commitment...all traits highly valued by the service academies. Doesn't surprise me at all.

Every other selective school including some pretty tiny obscure ones get discussed ad nauseum but not these. Why?

because it's too liberal democrat and jewish here. Neither set does ROTC or academies or active duty.
