| How many kids is Stoddert taking that are OOB? |
| Hello all, we are considering a move to Georgetown and would like to send our kindergartener to Hyde-Addison next year. I’m curious if she will meet a lot of kids from the neighborhood at school or if most of the kids come from other neighborhoods. Does anyone have experience with this? It’s nice to have school friends within walking distance. Thankful to hear your experiences! |
Most likely kids from outside the boundary. There are boundary kids. Some kids go private in the neighborhood. Principal is amazing. |
| The school, teachers and principal are amazing. The school is majority OOB but you will find neighborhood kids who attend. There are many in ward 3 who look down on hyde but don’t listen to them. |
We left Hyde when it relocated. It was not that Hyde was not worth the bus trip. That is too simplistic. The bus left at 7:15 I believe and was a ten minute walk from our house. The return bus didn't get back until 4:15/4:30. Several of my children's after school activities would have been impossible due to the time constraints. Had they relocated within a mile or two we would have stayed. It is a wonderful school and I still miss it. |
Not true. Pre-move Parents valued diversity very highly. It was one of the reasons for choosing the school and the reason that it had a very inclusive vibe. The move was simply not practical nor was it well-planned (I will spare you all the details!). Great school. Also I want to second the comment that the bolling kids are just great. Nothing like a military uniform at your kids thanksgiving potluck. Bolling maintains its longstanding busing relationship with hyde, so bolling families choose hyde, since military families get preference in the lottery. |
The OOB numbers are going to go down significantly over time - but the school is still fantastic. Feeds to Hardy - which is 50/50 in-boundary. We're a stoddert family that wishes we were in H-A (for the pre-K...) |
I'm sure she'll meet neighborhood kids at school. My child's H-A K class is a mix, and the diversity of the school overall, on many levels, is awesome. I've had kids at H-A for four years (through the swing location and back) and it's been a really solid experience: energetic, invested, kind, caring teachers; smaller class sizes relative to some other DC schools; personalized attention; a good virtual experience this year that has helped my kids thrive despite it all. |
| I have two kids currently attending Hyde with a third who will probably join them in the fall. It has been an excellent experience academically and socially. The fact that the school reflects the racial makeup of DC is amazing and not something that can be said of most Ward 3 schools. We love it there. |
| Kids whether in- or out-of-boundary are fantastic and looking for friends whether in walking distance or a car or bus ride away. They are from many races and socioeconomic levels. Good people with strong academic values. Hyde-Addison is good, competitive, and on the rise. Hopefully students will walk around the community more to get better acquainted. |
| How have the re-opening efforts been at Hyde (specifically wondering about reopening plans for next year). Our neighborhood DCPS has done a lousy job getting kids back in classrooms. |
| My understanding is that there are a few grade levels with one classroom each open of eleven children, and the rest is CARES. |
Additional details can be found in this week's newsletter: https://www.smore.com/m8v65-family-newsletter?ref=email-content#w-6145881531 Of particular note: Fall/2021-2022 School Year We are planning for in-person offerings for all families interested in attending in-person learning. It is our current understanding that there will be options for those families interested in virtual learning, as well. But, DCPS has not shared those details with principals, as of yet. |
Thank you so much for sharing. |
| I highly recommend HA. Wonderful school, staff and students. |
